BOX OFFICE: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Still Holding Strong Heading Into 3rd Weekend

Christopher Nolan's final Bat-flick is fending off all competition, including this week's Total Recall, to remain at the top of domestic online box office ticket sales as it heads into its third weekend on release..

Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises was expected to lose a bit of momentum heading into its third weekend, but according to Deadline, domestic online box office ticket sales are holding strong. The site report that the movie accounts for 56.6% of all transactions for Wednesday. Total Recall, which hits theaters this weekend to poor reviews, accounts for only 7.41% and Fox’s Diary Of a Wimpy Kid 3: Dog Days an even less impressive 3.71% of all transactions yesterday. Of course that just accounts for online sales, we won't have a completely accurate idea of the final figures until after the weekend -- but I would say it is a good sign Nolan's Batman swansong still has wings. The movie is now expected to finish with a total worldwide gross of over $1 billion, but of course we'll have to see about that!

The avengers was an awesome movie. I laughed out loud so many times. Awesome film. TDKR was better IMO. I've seen Avengers once. But I've seen TDKR twice already, and going back for a third this weekend. But i loved both films and I will be getting both on blu ray.

Yeah it should be due to Total Recall being a critical disaster.

I liked it but Rises could have been cooler. Too much daytime shooting ruined the atmosphere a tone of Batman's whole world. How great would that prison looked by moon and starlight? Catwoman and Bane had little presence compared to the Joker. Bane was my choice for the villain just overall flat. The costuming could have be better. Catwoman's was too plain, Batman's new neck too detailed and

Rises was disappointing. Too many cliche plot points and some of the worst dialogue I've ever heard in a film. Bane was incredible up until his motives were revealed to be a ruse. The character's innovative design Tom Hardy's presence made for so much potential, but all those plot twists towards the end really killed the mood. The Avengers may not have been "gritty" or "adult," but I have an imagination so that wasn't really an issue. I really enjoyed how well Whedon developed the characters and even though Loki clearly wasn't the villain that Bane was (supposed to be), I really enjoyed his presence in the movie. Furthermore, even though most moviegoers allowed their assumptions to keep them from looking for significant themes, I really enjoyed what the film had to say about how the sentimental aspects of human nature allow for substantial community development. In my opinion, I think that Whedon's movie had way more to say than Nolan's threequel even if The Dark Knight trilogy has been written in a way that makes it's thematic undertones painfully obvious for less astute moviegoers.

Dude the avengers had the cheesiest lines and scenes ever lol slow mo cap and Thor receiving their weapons!? I can see Thor doing that but cap just looked dumb. " I am always angry" was dumb. " if we can't save it we sure as hell will avenge it" was corny a [frick]. The avengers reeked of cheese the acting only made it worse, not hating but the avengers was a cheese fest.

There is no way Total Recall will unseat TDKR this weekend...

there cannot be a way...

Okay, if they had gone 'R' and had a lil bit of Beil-Beckinsale nude jello wrestling, maybe.

I gotta think TDKR is going to be #1 for a few more weekends. Nothing on the horizon looks that enthralling, and outside of this website I haven't heard one peep of interest for Total Recall around the ol' watercooler at work, or while gaming, where people are still talking about TDKR.

I think that this weekend TDKR will be #1 with 32 million, but next weekend is the action packed movie Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner, which will be number #1 on the weekend of aug 10-12th with 64 million. so

on the August 10-12
1) Bourne Legacy 64 million
2) DKR 17 million
3) The Campaign 13 million
4) Total Recall 10 million

Oh crap, forgot about the new Bourne. That might beat out TDKR on the 10th.

"The Dark Knight Rises" takes direct charge of the French box office, and is even better than the scores achieved by its predecessor or "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "avengers" for their respective first weeks.
DKR is therefore in europe, ahead of its competitors (amazing & avengers), and has already beaten DK!

Good, nothing but good news for the summer of comic movies. And that Total Recall movie is probably set to be a disaster. PG-13 did not help it likely. And teasing the 3 boob chick in the previews? C'mon.

@spidey31

I feel that, man. I can see why those lines could be interpreted as cheesy, but to me a line isn't cheesy if it's a little dorky like Tony's line about avenging. In my opinion dialogue is at it's worst when it's trying too hard not to be dorky like a lot of Nolan's dialogue which is meant to sound deep or intimidating but really isn't very well written. The Avengers did have some of those but the movie was meant to be entertaining. I don't feel like Joss was trying to checkmate some sort of young adult obsession with gritty realism like Nolan was. That attitude is what makes a film cheesy to me. As far as Banner's line about always being angry goes, I get why someone could mistake that for being an insubstantial line designed to impress them. That's what I thought the first time I saw the film, but after additional views, I think that line was way more about what was happening with banner's acceptance that he doesn't have to be ashamed of the hulk being a permanent part of his identity. I don't think the characters in TDKR were developed very well to be frank.

"Hawkeye not looking and shooting an arrow at a ship? Blackwidow jumping on to a alien ship!"

I know, right! That was absolutely insane. You'd think this was a comic book converted into a movie or something.

Not suprising as far as the box office numbers go.

Team Dark Avengers F*ck the World

Nolan is a great director. Perfect job with the third film . . . . .It's a different take on Batman and he says so much.

Not as out there as say Avengers w Loki making the people kneel to him and Cap putting the smack down as far as saying something (is this not your natural state ?) - Loki

But come on (If I say like a gang banger or truck load of soldiers get blown up)-Joker . . . .

It's to early to get that deep with Rises but Nolan and company are diffinitely saying something. Holy Sh*t

Down the road gonna own this film and have not watched any of the batman films while tripping but damn. The more I watch Begins and DK the more blown away I am with the job Nolan did. I only seen Rises once-
still putting off second viewing.

Viva Life Mhahahahahahahahhaha !!!!!!!

Picture yourself in a boat on a river . . .

The Star Spangled man with the plan !!!!

That it has had no credible competition since it's opening, box office on it's twelfth day of release is roughly $300,000 more than The Avengers twelfth day, but Avengers had some competition... it just blew them away. I suspect Total Recall, although it's getting low marks, will hurt TDKR over the weekend. And, as foreign B/O is still low, making it to a billion will be difficult. There's a reason foreign markets have not gotten it yet... TDK got larger domestic than foreign, had they opened in foreign markets first, like Avengers did, and it got the negative reviews from overseas, the domestic would have been damaged. They know foreign won't overtake domestic, and that's probably going to have to happen in order for TDKR to make a billion.
Just honest unbiased analysis of the numbers... doesn't matter to me... CBMs RULE BABY!! That's what's important. Articles like this are posted to generate hits on the net and boost ad revenue... that's why every video posted gets a video ad attached... just shaking their moneymakers... you.
