Chris Nolan Confirms: He Will Definitely Direct Batman 3

Chris Nolan Confirms: He Will Definitely Direct Batman 3

Speaking exclusively to Empire, Christopher Nolan has put Bat fans minds to rest by assuring us that he will indeed be bringing us a sequel to The Dark Knight..

Sure we knew there was a set release date, we knew that he was working on teh script with brother Jonathan, and we assumed it was a foregone conclusion that Nolan would eventually get back in the Bat saddle. But then word that WB had yet to officially greenlight the project and rumors of the studio forcing Nolan's hand on 3D caused a bit of worry.

But now the notoriously tight lipped director has finally just come out and said it!.

From Empire..

"I don’t know if it’s announced or if it’s not announced," said Nolan. "It’s becoming inevitable, I’ll put it that way. I feel myself falling into it, I guess. And getting it all figured out and I’m pretty excited about what we’re doing so… If I haven’t announced it, I think that people probably all know at this point that I’m doing it."

Hang on, that's not 100% clear: so we can safely assume you're directing?

"I think you can at this point, yes."

Well thank God for that! When Empire pressed on what "getting it all figured out" might mean Nolan revealed that he and Jonathan were at work on the script and it was slowly taking shape.

Queue villain speculation below:)

Damn it! Christopher Nolan directing the third film is a fiasco! On second thought - no! AWESOME!

I wonder how it will end for the worlds greatest detective!

BMP!

Yes well this isn't very surprising. In fact it would have been very cowardly of him NOT to direct it or very retarded of WB to prevent him from directing it. But what about SUPERMAN?!?!?!?!

Not surprising, but comforting! With the studio arsing about and the rumors of rifts its nice to know hes willing to confirm it even if WB are not.

This is long-expected news. I guess we can get into long debates over the villain now. My vote is for the Riddler, in the style of the TAS Riddler. It would be nice to see a Batman film that played up his legendary detective skills.

Ror- True... true.

comicb00kguy- I prefer "The Batman" version of Riddler but i agree with your comment ;)

But i really REALLY want The Ventriloquist to have a small part in it!!! Even if it's merely for an opening takedown, to introduce Hugo Strange and or Harley Quinn, working in Arkham. But i'd LOVE for him to be in it! Played by Robin Williams would be a trip but he's too expensive. I say give it to Steve Buscemi!!! :))

its like a domino effect. first he is in, then the others will follow. this is good cuz maybe we will hear some good movements in the months to come on this film.

I hope they go with a villain other than Riddler. I've wanted a 3-way teamup with Scarface, Catwoman and Scarecrow.

I'm sick of the johnny depp rumors. He doesn't seem like the kind of actor Nolan would go with. Nolan would go with an unknown for Riddler and i if he uses that villain then i hope he does go with an unknown.

Well we know the villain will be someone very ordinary, since Nolan doesn't do the DC comic version of Batman!

@Intruder

yea but Johnny Depp is a predictable casting for the role of The Riddler. Chris Nolan for this Batman movies cast people who aint a blockbuster star
Creature

This is officially my most anticipated film of all time. The Dark Knight- pop culture tsunami. Inception- Nolan is now Stanley Kubrick.

Johnny Depp is gonna be Willy Wonka if he is cast as the Riddler or the Mad Hatter or Edward Scissorhands or Jack Sparrow. No Thanks.

jazzman & LP4- I'm sorry, what??? "Chris Nolan for this Batman movies cast people who aint a blockbuster star"???

What about, Aaron Eckhart? Heath Ledger? Christian Bale? Morgan Freeman? Michael Caine? Liam freakin' Neeson?!?!?! No?

What are you guys high??? Depp would fit right in. He sure as hell didn't shy away from DiCaprio in Inception either. What makes Depp any different???

MsKyle08- Personally, i find that there is nothing similar between his performance as Sparrow, Mad Hatter or Willy Wonka. And what can Edward Scisorhands be compared to??? What about Sweeney Todd? What about Secret Window? Sleepy Hollow? All different. Same face maybe but still.

KnightGambit- My favorite depiction of Riddler would be a more serious one. Mix Depp's performance of Secret Window and Once Upon A Time In Mexico and you've got a great & gritty Nolan type Riddler ;)
jazzman
jazzman - 9/29/2010, 11:36 AM
@MsKyle08

i think he will be all that if it was Tim Burton direct Batman lol. but if he did work with Chris Nolan he would be more serious. but i dont think Johnny Depp should be in the next Batman movie its better for unknown or underrated actors like what he did for the rest of his Batman movies.

@Shaman

since when Aaron Eckhart, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Cillian Murphy are blockbuster stars. Batman has become their blockbuster films all these actors dont do Will Smith, Johnny Depp, money when releasing film. these actors are great underrated actors.

Christian Bale before Batman Begins was not a blockbuster actor he has done good movies but they aint huge money makers. that also goes for Aaron Eckhart aswell done good movies but they aint money making films.

I hope they bring Ekart back... Yeah I know Dent is dead, but Two-Face could be alive. "The people of Gotham could never know what he's done", that's why they're telling everyone he's dead. Two-Face could be very much alive and in arkham.

Would be nice anyway.

Depp is cool, but my favorite is TOM HARDY

Thou still dreaming about Bane, Talia Al Ghul and Two-Face!

If Nolan pulls it off, he'll be the first to do a superhero trilogy without a crappy third act.
