According to a scoop from El Mayimbe at Latino Review, Oswald aka the Penguin will be the first Gotham City villain to appear in the FOX television show GOTHAM. FOX is currently casting the role. However it is still not known whether we will be seeing Mr. Cobblepot as himself or whether he will adopt the name The Penguin on the show.

What are your thoughts on the news? Who do you think FOX should audition to play Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot?

Character Description: The Penguin is a supervillain who is known as one of Batman's oldest and most persistent enemies. Artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger introduced him in Detective Comics #58 (December 1941). The Penguin is a short, rotund man known for his love of birds and his specialized high-tech umbrellas. A mobster and thief, he fancies himself as being a "gentleman of crime;" his nightclub business provides a cover for criminal activity, which Batman sometimes uses as a source of criminal underworld information.

Funny, when I saw Oswald, a character in his 20's I automatically thought of Patton Oswald. He'd be perfect for the role!

Seems appropriate to have the penguin as the first villain. Batman should cut his teeth on on easy non-metahuman target.

I think it'd be cool to see Oswald start out as a lowly mobster and then slowly work his way to becoming the crime boss we all know and love him as.

Of course! Oswald's dad was the one who had Thomas and Martha murdered to pave the way for his mayoral bid.

Jonah Hill? That's inspired casting, which oddly I think could be pulled off. No way he'd do a tv series. Wish Mad Hatter was used more though. A villain I think that's possibilities are interesting and out there. Games that usually focus in and on the mind in some way. That said, hope this show turns out good. I haven't heard much about it to be honest.

That's cool. He would be a good first villain for Jim Gordon to take on.

I have a hard time picturing an actor in his 20s playing Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin though.

I am not surprised if this is true the only real villains they can use will be crime bosses, hitmen, and the occasional psychopath. Guys like Joker, Bane, Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, etc... will not be involved in this show. Penguin also will not have his famous trick umbrella he will be a crime boss running the show from his club may throw in Black Mask but will probably use the other crime boss families. Zsasz will probably be a recurring villain in the show.

Have a died and went to hell?

@gliderman

Seriously they confirmed Joker for this show such a mistake Joker works at his best when he is a parallel to Batman. Playing his game with Batman scene like this are why Batman needs Joker and Joker needs Batman and is stupid to put him in something without Batman

Batman laughing hysterically alongside the Joker as the Gotham PD just stand there. The entire insanity and fear of the Joker really only works with Batman man [frick] this shit even more.
