UPDATED: Tom Hardy Talks A Little More About Playing Bane In The Dark Knight Rises!

In an interview on a British chat show tonight, the actor talked about the previous interpretation of Bane in Batman and Robin, how this will change with Chris Nolan's vision, the mask, bulking up and more. Now with video!

After talking to Samuel L. Jackson about The Avengers last week, it was Tom Hardy's turn to appear on British chat show, Alan Carr: Chatty Man, this time. The show is still on as I type this, but I managed to quickly transcribe what he had to say when asked about his role as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. The following transcript is as accurate as possible.

"Have you seen the Joel Shumacher Batman and Robin? Doesn't look very menacing does he?" [Laughs]


When asked whether or not he'll be donning a similar "gimp" mask in the upcoming movie, he paused for a few seconds as if struggling to find an answer until finally replying with the following joke:

"Well...only if I feel like it!"


Continuing to talk about the previous version of Bane, the actor then went on to emphasise that it won't be anything like that one and that as with the other movies, Christopher Nolan has his own plans for how the character will be portrayed.

"Chris Nolan will revisit the character so I wouldn't go by that at all."

"I'm going to need to bulk up a lot for it. That's a lot of weight to put on and I've got to start shooting in May. I've got to go up to about 13 or 14 stone. I'm 12 and a bit now, so only have a few months to do that."


The Dark Knight Rises is set to be released on July 20, 2012!

Hardy's lips are soo sexy. I just wanna kiss them. If I ever got to interview Tom Hardy I'd probably just say "Shut up and kiss me":D

Niiiiice find. If Hardy doesn't wear the mask similar to how it looks in the comics, then in my eyes he's not Bane. He better wear that bloody mask.

Fast hands Josh my boy! He's only 12 and a bit stone and bulking to 13 or 14? That doesn't sound enough to me. I know this will be a slightly different take on the character but surely he was bigger than that for Bronson?

i trust Nolan, but still think that Bane is a lousy and insulting choice for villain
for long-term Batman fans. hope no mask, and that he does a brand new story incorporating the character other than the super-obvious one.

14 stone is 196 pounds and 12 stone is 168 pounds. That means Hardy is standing at 5'9" with just over 168 pounds on him right now. He's going to have to put on 25 pounds of muscle to get to 196 pounds and on a 5'9" frame he's going to look pretty big.

He's only 5'10" (not complaining,) 196lbs. should look pretty jacked. Bale is 6'1" and weighs about the same, the contrast should work fine.

Why the re-interpretation of the character, without Bane being like he is in the comics then he isn't Bane. Nolan seems to want to re-imagine the Bane character; Not-Hispanic, perhaps no mask, and doesn't seem to need to get that big.

If Nolan veers too far from the comic version I would be pretty upset. If he wants a short, semi-jacked, brittish, criminal genius, he should have invented a new character. This news does not get me excited at all.

Hardy is a great actor and all but I am still skeptical about this whole Bane and Catwoman thing. How are they going to transform a smaller british guy into a hulking Hispanic Bane. The main thing I am worrying about is if he will use vemon or not.

This movie better be good NOLAN or I'm coming for you!!

I'm rather disappointed in this news. That's rare when Nolan's involved. I have faith in Nolan, but even he can make mistakes too. I'd be fine with a variation of the original mask, but a mask nonetheless

In regards to the Hispanic aspect of Bane, Hardy has played a mentally [frick]ed up Brazillian before and was really believeable. This was the first thing I saw him as and didn't know any different at the time. As for his height, he's hardly a midget. He's 5, 10. That's an average height. When Bane is normal he's not incredibley tall, when on Venom he is super tall. No doubt CGI will be used to change Bane's appearence when on Venom.

I heard in that recent interview that Hardy is briefly coming over to the state I live in. If Tom Hardy goes missing in the next couple days you know what happened to him. I also found out he has a fiancee. Umm...thats not gunna work for me ;)
