What if Batman Killed The Joker?

His no killing rule has been the cause of many comic book tragedies. So begs the question, what if Batman killed the Joker?

Everything would be all good if Batman killed the Joker, right?  I mean, the Joker is the ultimate incarnation of evil in comic books, almost the spot on definition of Supervillain.  Killing him would save a lot of lives.  Right?  Wrong.  Here is why:

We know Batman is crazy, right?  Yup.  This all stems back from his parents death right in front of his eyes.  The villains he fights he fights because of that one incident.  In someways, the villains he fights represent the mugger that murdered his parents.  Imagine this going into overdrive.  He fights the Joker, sees and believes that HE is in fact the one that killed his parents.  Fights him.  And then throws him off a building.  Happy ending?

Then, the preexisting order would fall apart.  Once he kills him, other villains in Gotham would go insane (even more so), try and become the new big man on the street.  Once gentlemanly villains like The Peinquin would go mad.  Turn into a psycotic, baby killing murderer.  And Batman would have almost no limits.  Killing any criminal he see's intentionally.  Even going as far as blowing up henchmen.  This would go on and on until Batman kills Peinguin.  Then it gets worse.

The public would of course disapprove of Batman's actions.  So he would soon get plastic surgery and a new suit, thus a new start.  But the Joker is still haunting him.  He now sees every villain as The Joker.  Two Face and Riddler would now be complete replicas of his greatest enemy.  And he would stop at nothing to stop who he see's as the Joker, aka the one who killed his parents.  And like that, the pain is gone.  But it is replaced with something new:  pure insanity.  Batman will become the Joker.

He would again undergo plastic surgery.  Get a newer, more colorful suit.  Start making public appearances, and give off the illusion that he is a superhero.  But everything in this new "Joker Vision"  is worse.  He now sees enemies as funny.  He now sees the funny side.  Everything, his suit, his partner, and his villains, is a joke.  And to make it worse, he is so afraid of killing again he barely hurts criminals anymore.  People like Mr. Freeze, who was once tragic, is now a one-line spewing muscleman.

So, in conclusion, if Batman killed the Joker, we would get Batman and Robin.  And no one wants that.  Thank you all for reading, peace out!

Oh, and by the way, this was a clever way of stating the original four Batman movies. Batman kills Joker. Batman kills peinguin. Goes on to recieve hate for being dark. Recasts to be more childfriendly. Colorful villains. Batman and Robin.

This is so much less interesting/good than I thought it would be. I don't mean to be harsh, but this made almost no sense. I'm sure it did in your head, but it came out completely ridiculous. Even if you truly believe these things, you didn't flesh them out enough to be coherent. And the plastic surgery parts derailed the article even more than it already was.
Sorry, man.

I kind of get where you're coming from now because of the whole Keaton/Kilmer/Clooney thing, but it still doesn't make sense the way you're putting it.

I always imagined an elseworlds story where he crosses that line. When he does that, he becomes a prime candidate for the red rage ring and the yellow sinestro corp fear ring. Having gone insane from killing the Joker, he would accept them, knowing they would bring him the power to fight crime. He basically rules the world, destroying anyone he sees as a villain (which with his insanity is everyone, yes, there would be a Batman/Superman fight, and yes, with the red and yellow rings, Batman would win), until he's the only one left. Then he kills himself in crime alley.

If someone takes that, I WILL SUE YOU! LMFAO

@aknightinarkham

I think i read an elseworld story similar to that, where Batman gets a Green Lantern Ring. Similar story. Called Batman: In Darkest Knight. I would check it out if i were you, not a bad read.

This article was made under the assumption that "Batman" is based solely off the movie universe which is fricking stupid

Yeah, he's had rings in elseworld's stories before (and he's rejected them in canon before), but he's never gone psycho killer and murdered everyone. And then himself.

If Batman killed The Joker would it stop the citizens of Gotham being murdered, tormented, threatened and humiliated, possibly because there are other villains residing with in Gotham City that do the same thing but in small amounts. So if Batman killed the Joker he would have to follow out by killing every other villain and that means thieves, rapists, murderers ect.

Batman would become The Punisher if he ever got his hands on an Iron Man suit and Batman would be pushed beyond his sanity which in my theory Batman would go against Heroes thinking that if they where to become villains and cross over he would eliminate those heroes, proving Batman would become the thing which is he is fighting against which is - a villain.

Hmm. It's an interesting idea for an editorial, but you've gone about it a little weirdly. Regardless of whether it's fan-fic or not, it's waffley, and not quite 'funny' enough to be satire.

Like I said, interesting idea, but I'm not really feeling it.

So, Jared Leto would stick his finger in Affleck's Ass? I guess now film will be instant succes, since both actors are method.
If thats the case maybe Kevin Smith did write script for DC film after all?

If he killed the Joker than he wouldn't be Batman, he would be Owlman. Bruce does not kill.

I do understand what you are getting at, with the Joker being dead Batman Gotham believes it is safe. However I think killing Joker causes more problems than solutions. Their would be so many individuals trying to replace Joker, some individuals would turn Joker into a Martyr.

Great article, fun read.

My theory on the matter is this: If Batman were to ever kill the Joker...the Joker...would die.

"If Batman were to ever kill the Joker...the Joker...would die."
But with that logic, that would mean that if Joker were ever to kill Batman...the Batman...would die. And as we all know, that is bull shit.
