BATMAN v SUPERMAN Producer Promises More Footage "Before The End Of The Year"
The SDCC trailer for Batman v Superman: DOJ left fans more than satisfied, but some have begun to wonder when we may receive some follow-up footage. According to Charles Roven, it'll be before the end of 2015! Hit the jump to see what he had to say about the movie!
After what feels like a lifetime, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is now just four months away. The movie was originally slated to be released this summer, but was delayed in order to give director Zack Snyder more time to perfect the movie (and potentially gain a more advantageous release date). Having been in development for such a long time, you'd imagine the movie is complete by now. According to Charles Roven, that's not the case.
Speaking to Collider, the BvS producer revealed that the film has a whopping 1,500 VFX shots, meaning it's still in the post-production stage. However, he did promise fans that new footage is right around the corner. "Honestly, you're going to be seeing something very soon," he teased, "I don't know how you define soon but certainly before the end of the year, how about that?”
During post-production, it's likely a lot of footage will be left on the cutting room floor. Keeping the runtime down is obviously for the best when it comes to mainstream audiences, but hardcore fans may eventually like to see an extended version - something that Roven thinks may become a reality: "I don’t know if you’ll ever get the 4-hour version, but there may be something that’s coming along that might be slightly less long than that."
He also touched on the movie's change in writer, which saw Chris Terrio replace Man Of Steel scribe David S. Goyer. "First of all, Chris Terrio is a fantastic writer... he won the Oscar for Argo." Roven stated, before adding "David Goyer is a fantastic writer, and I think that we were very fortunate that even though it wasn’t a collaboration it was a very good blending of the two guys’ talents."
BvS boasts one of the most impressive ensemble casts in a CBM to date, but there's potentially a down side to that. Roven addressed concerns that the movie may actually be too 'overstuffed' for its own good, dismissing them by emphasizing its focus on the two legendary titular heroes:
"I don’t think that’s an issue for this film at all. I really don’t… I think that the film is called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so there’s a reason it’s called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and not Dawn of Justice: Batman v Superman. So you’re gonna invest mostly in Batman v Superman and I think that you’ll find other characters in there that you hopefully will want to see more of."
What do you think of what Roven had to say? Are excited about the prospect of more footage, or are you satisfied with what you've seen already? You can head over to Collider to read their full interview with the producer, and be sure to leave your thought on it below!
