About 3 weeks ago, we received a picture from the set of Man of Steel 2 where they had a ginormous statue of Superman (unfinished and uncolored). People speculated that it was a giant Superman statue, others say it's for some weird CGI thing. Well, people forgot a very iconic Superman statue that was erected in the comics before...
So everyone knows what happens to Superman in the infamous arc, The Death of Superman. An unstoppable force named Doomsday fights to the end with Superman, ending with both of them dying from the wounds they had from the fight. During Superman's short death, the city of Metropolis erected a statue for his dedication and sacrifice. You may have seen something like this from the Dark Knight Rises movie, where the people of Gotham erected (heh) a statue of Batman. Although, in the comics, Superman's statue is way bigger... As in,
way bigger:
About a week later, poof! Superman's alive again! Historically, this was the comic (and Blackest Night) that jump-started the mediocre plot of ressurecting dead characters... Even Marvel was influenced by this!
So what do you think? Can this statue be the next "Superman Memorial" statue from the Death of Superman? What does this mean? Does this mean the Man of Steel makes the ultimate sacrifice? No, because they're doing Justice League... But, does this mean DC are willing to pull the ol' Phil Coulson trick? Who knows...
