Ben Affleck Talks BATMAN V SUPERMAN Role; Praises Zack Snyder And Chris Terrio's Vision

Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne/Batman) talks here about the expectations which come with taking on a role such as this, and then goes on to praise writer Chris Terrio and director Zack Snyder's vision for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice as well as the importance of honouring the source material...

The initial response to Ben Affleck being cast as Batman was met with a mixed response to say the least (#BetterBatmanThanBenAffleck trended worldwide for days). While many fans embraced the decision to cast an actor who had turned his career around both in front and behind the camera, others simply could not see past performances in the likes of Daredevil and Gigli. When EW recently got the chance to catch up with the Gone Girl star, they were quick to quiz him on what it was like to see such a vocal response. "Before I took the role, Warner Bros. gave me a bunch of past reactions to casting and said, “Are you sure you want to get into this? This is part and parcel of these movies now. There’s a lot of active fans with a lot of opinions.” To me, having been through a certain amount of that, it doesn’t really… Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I wouldn’t have taken the part if I didn’t trust my instincts in terms of the filmmaking," he added before praising this new take on the iconic DC Comics character. "I think Chris Terrio wrote a terrific script. Zack’s a great visual director. And there’s an interesting take. I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think I could do it. I have the benefit of a lot of that understanding. But also, everyone is entitled to their opinion. That’s a big part of this international sport. The Fifty Shades of Grey kid or whatever it is. That’s sort of become a thing."

However, Affleck hasn't allowed some of the negativity to bother him, and he is in fact happy that those who care so much about Batman want to see him handled properly on the big screen. "You know what? It’s great that people do care that much," he told the site. "They want to see the movie that much. And it is incumbent on you to honor the story. There are the Greek myths and these are the American myths. The American myths are these superheroes. People care about ‘em a lot. And it’s incumbent on you to do a good job and make it as excellent as you possibly can. At the end of the day, the movie’s all that matters." It's hard to fault anything he's saying here, and what we've seen in the officially released images of the suit and the leaked footage from the San Diego Comic-Con (not to mention photos of Affleck on set as Bruce Wayne) have undoubtedly led to sceptical fans becoming far more supportive of "Batfleck".

"I’m right in the middle of shooting now," Affleck revealed when talk turned to his experience so far playing the Caped Crusader in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. "It’s a process that I’ll probably have better perspective on when I’m done. I can tell you that every time I do a role, it’s the responsibility of an actor to get their physical self as close to the role as possible. And Batman’s obviously got a set of expectations that are tough. So I spent a lot of time working out. And it’s a far cry from Gone Girl where my character is described as “puffy and hungover.” I want you to know I worked equally hard at both! [laughs]" A lot has been made about just how buff Affleck's Batman looks, so this should come as very good news to fans (and perhaps something to worry about for Henry Cavill's Superman when the Man of Steel battles it out with Batman on March 25th, 2016). Love him. Amazing choice for Ben.
He's become a great fan of film over the years and he does seem to care about the character a lot.
Team Batfleck!

If you have to go back as far as ten years ago to find bad ben affleck films, then you have some serious issues.

Terrio was supposed to do a rewrite, he's now written a completely new script and is being courted for JL. WB completely shelved Goyer.

I'm sure I was absolutely wrong about the Affleck thing. He looks good as both Wayne and Batman.

With Terrio, Snyder, and Affleck working together, I have no doubt this movie and JL will blow our minds. I hope WB can get equally talented writers for the solo movies.

The only reason that I took the other article down was because it was completely plagiarised from EW. Whoever posted it had just copied and pasted the interview into some blockquotes and stuck in a single line about the release date. Nothing to do with money, everything to do with quality. :)

@Klone

Lets not even start with that. Im sure its not really that different from the first draft. Rewrites are done all the time even if no new writer is coming in.

If Affleck likes the script it can't be that bad, right?

Here's the thing about Affleck. He was in some truly shit-tastic movies in his earlier days. In the better part of the past decade, he reinvented himself and now he's one of the most well-respected directors in Hollywood. He knows how to find gems and it's not like he's hurting for money so he's not just going to sign onto a blockbuster just for the paycheck. He actually has to consider his own credibility as an Oscar-winning director when he takes roles now.

@blackandyellow

I'm not saying it was in particularly Affleck's case but in general some stars can't start with the best movies in the world because ultimately they want to be noticed. They can't be too choosy yet until they can up their reputation and demand by people.

@Lemons

He wrote the first draft and still has story credit. But the final draft they are using is Chris Terrio's
