Jesse Eisenberg Comments On The "Sophisticated" Themes In BATMAN v SUPERMAN

Jesse Eisenberg isn't really the kind of actor you'd expect to see in a superhero movie like Batman v Superman, but it seems what drew him in was screenwriter Chris Terrio. Hit the jump to read his thoughts on him and what makes this release different to others in the genre...

While everyone is getting excited over Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it's worth bearing in mind that we're also getting closer and closer to the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It feels like forever since we last got anything from the movie, but Jesse Eisenberg has at least shed some light on why we should all be counting down the days until it's released during an interview with We Got This Covered. Despite refusing to divulge anything about the plot, he did have this to say:

"Since everyone here is obviously interested in writing in some capacity, I’ll tell you that the man wrote the movie, Chris Terrio, is absolutely phenomenal. He also wrote Argo. He’s such a brilliant guy, so well read. He’s interested in very sophisticated topics and discussions. So in Batman V Superman, even though it’s a superhero movie, people who don’t necessarily see movies in that genre, like this crowd, will probably enjoy it. It discusses sophisticated and important themes."

It seems like Ben Affleck getting Terrio involved is what sold a lot of actors on this movie, including him! Without him, David Goyer would still be writing, and well, that's not a pleasant thought at all now, is it?

Wasn't this already an article? It wasn't that long ago, either...does anyone feel like they've read this quote on CBM before?

Eisenberg, have you seen a superhero movie in the last 10 years? They've all got sophistication now. This is nothing new

Having some philosophical themes is always good.

Loved this scene in Age Of Ultron...

Hopefully more CBMs will do stuff like this.

Well I guess that means it's not going to appeal to the average cbm'er.

DCEU gonna be dark, gritty, transcendent, and now sophisticated. And that writer dude from Argo is a good writer. Did we leave out any words? Not-jokey and uhm...I don't think they used the word edgy yet.

Anyway, I think Lex will have the best performance from BvS.

@omarvls what makes you think he's going to "truly kill it as lex"? So far from what I've seen in the trailer I love everything besides his Lex...I'm not sold at all yet and I guess you could say it's too early to make the assumption that he'll be bad but it's TRULY early to say he's going to be a good Lex. In my opinion, from what I've seen he's not the Lex most comic book readers know but I'm just TRULY interested in the reasoning behind you stating he's going to kill it...

Eisenberg was the biggest thing that drew me to this film, and he was my favourite part of the trailer. I think we're gonna see a more irreverent Lex in BvS. It'll be very refreshing from the straightforwardness of the characters in MoS.

that's a new one :P
I hope that, when the movie comes out, all this statements hold water.

What? Is he implying supposed "intellectuals" or people who would be interviewing a novelist don't see superhero movies?

He really loves to jerk off Chris Terrio, I mean that has been what he has mentioned in every single interview

Every.

Single.

One.

We get it, Jesse. You and Terrio are running away to brazil after the movie comes out, could you talk about anything else in the movie?

Also to everyone saying Superhero movies cover sophisticated topics. Sorry but not really. It's all very basic stuff that anyone would grasp, hardly any superhero movie dives into high concept stuff that really demands critical thought. Dark Knight, Iron Man 1, Watchmen, and like The Wolverine (maybe) are the last I can think off that really touched on actual sophistication.

Doesn't make it bad or good, it just means they tried to look at some deep shit.
