Jesse Eisenberg Says 'Lex Luthor' Is "Like A Real Scary Person" In BATMAN V SUPERMAN
Revealing how his Lex Luthor will compare to Gene Hackman's portrayal from the classic Superman movies, if at all, Jesse Eisenberg talks here about reading the comics in preparation of Dawn of Justice, and why he's glad he didn't do so beforehand. Check it out after the jump!
Over the weekend, Jesse Eisenberg attended the New Yorker Festival where he briefly discussed his role as Lex Luthor in next year's hotly-anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Obviously, the Academy Award-nominated actor could not divulge any plot details, but he did share how he prepared for the supervillain role, how his portrayal will compare to past iterations, and a bit more.
In preparation of playing Lex Luthor, Eisenberg says he read up on some DC Comics featuring the Superman supervillain. However, The Social Network star reassures that he was not a comic book reader prior to the role, and that might have been helpful given he wouldn't be that "obsequious comic book fan" who was "too excited to stop smiling" while shooting the Man of Steel follow-up. Regardless, Eisenberg was pleased to have an abundance of source material to look through.
"There is this trove of stuff about this guy. A lot of it's repetitive, like he always winds up on the roof of his building giving some faux benevolent talk about how he's going to change the city," he said. "It's fun to take that campy cartoony stuff and try to put it into a real person and try to reconcile the two." Eisenberg also reassured that his portrayal of Lex Luthor won't be anything like Gene Hackman's in the original Superman movies because Dawn of Justice is "so different ... it has real psychological underpinnings, and this movie character feels like a real scary person."
Hopefully we can agree with Eisenberg in six months when the movie opens. What do YOU think?
