POLL: How Do You Feel About Jesse Eisenberg Being BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN's 'Lex Luthor'?

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston was a favourite, while Joaquin Phoenix was said to be in talks with Warner Bros., but it would be The Social Network and Now You See Me's Jesse Eisenberg who ultimately nabbed the role of 'Lex Luthor'. How do you feel about it?

Jesse Eisenberg is Lex Luthor. Not a rumour, not speculation; FACT. In the press release, director Zack Snyder said he like Lex Luthor because he's "a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman," while "Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions." Needless to say, the news generated a lot of buzz, with over 2100 comments on the original news story posted on this site. Some were happy, others infuriated and just as many intrigued. So, how do you feel about the news? Here's your chance to once again let us know...

Honestly I'm willing to give it a chance but I can't help but picture how badass Phoenix or even Cranston would've been. I was really hoping for a more physically imposing Lex this time around, but as long as Snyder goes with a physical threat as the second villain like Metallo I'll be good with Lex as just the brains of the operation. Just please get Momoa or the Rock as Metallo and not as any random Justice League member.

Well at least Clark and Lex will be the same age in this incarnation. And maybe Eisenberg can lift some weights and take some testosterone pills, the movie doesn't come out for another 2 and a half years at least.

How about an "I dont really care as long as the actor and performance is good" option?
i keep hearing from varius places (this site, youtube, etc) that he's a good actor.
and WE DONT KNOW what the directors saw in the auditions.
for all we know, jesse might have bested Phoenix's or cranston's Audition (if there were any, i doubt cranston auditioned for it)

Darn! Oh well. I don't care about their controversial casting. This movie is a departure from expectations.

Who knows? This might be as amazing as Heath Ledger's Joker.
It might redefine the character.

Personally I can see this guy playing Lex and than I cannot. Hopefully WB and Snyder saw something that the most of us are missing. Anyways I hope he kills it like Heath Ledger did to prove most people wrong.

Honestly, it was a HUGE let down for me...my hopes we're on J.Phoenix...he has the ability to look strong both mentally and physically...I've said I will hold judgment until the trailer/movie...Eisenberg is a talented guy...he's tiny though, 5'-7"...Supes, Bats, and probably even WW will make him look like a 12 yr old child...

Wow you already saw the movie? Dang I wish I had your connections and insight to make a call on a movie that the general public have not seen yet.

TEST COMPUTER VOICE: ...Correct. How do you feel? ...How do you feel?
SPOCK: I do not understand the question.
AMANDA: What is it, Spock?
SPOCK: I do not understand the question, Mother.
AMANDA: You're half human. The computer knows that.
SPOCK: The question is irrelevant.
AMANDA: Spock, ...the retraining of your mind has been in the Vulcan way, so you may not understand feelings. But as my son, you have them. They will surface.
SPOCK: As you wish, since you deem them of value. But I cannot wait here to find them.
AMANDA: Where must you go?
SPOCK: I must go to Earth. To offer testimony.
AMANDA: You do this ...for friendship?
SPOCK: I do it because I was there,
AMANDA: Spock. Does the good of the many outweigh the good of the one?
SPOCK: I would accept that as an axiom.
AMANDA: Then you stand here alive because of a mistake ...made by your flawed, feeling, human friends. They have sacrificed their futures because they believed that the good of the one, ...you, ...was more important to them.
SPOCK: Humans make illogical decisions.
AMANDA: They do, indeed.

I dig it. All the casting in this movie is inspired and well thought out. Even if Snyder isn't casting people who resemble the classic portrayal, he's definitely choosing actors who match the personality and history of the character they portray.
I smell authenticity for once.

Saying he isn't lex is pretty much saying you dont think he's a good enough actor to pull off lex luthor. I honestly think alot of people could pull off a lex luthor look if they shaved their heads.

@Bropus
I agree on that part, but a superman universe without luthor feels wrong, even if he's not the villain.

My guess is he'll probably be a side/secondary villain assisting the main ones, like the master mind strategist type role (I.e with metallo or Bizarro)

You want your Lex Luthor?! Here's your Lex Luthor!

Goddamnit WB! Does anyone truly believe Jesse Eisenberg can go toe to toe with Superman and Batman?!
GoldSlayer1
GoldSlayer1 - 2/2/2014, 10:57 AM
@Sintzu
you make the point that he fights the league
by the time the MOS 2 comes out, he'll be 32 years old, and when JL comes out (probably a year or two after, depends if they do it back to back or not) will be 33-34.

This is a new universe, and if you want it to last without your stars showing obvious aging, then you go young. especially this early.

Bekss
Bekss - 2/2/2014, 10:57 AM
He won't be the Lex Luthor from the comics, maybe he'll be an arrogant rich boy named Lex Luthor, but he's not the Lex Luthor from the comics and that's the funny part because everytime someone change something from the comics you start to cry but you want a JL movie so much that you accept anything.

I am not personally crazy for this casting but I will reserve judgment till the movie comes out.
