My thoughts on Batman vs. Superman plot and how the rest of the DCCU should go

As a comic book fan, I love the whole concept of a shared movie universe that Marvel brought to the mainstream. I consider myself a fan of both companies, where sometimes I'm really invested DC and then other times I'm really invested into Marvel. We have seen what Marvel has done with their shared film universe so far, and DC is trying to do the same. Here are some ideas that I hope DC puts into their shared universe. As a side note, I would like to see DC TV properties be placed into cinematic universe, more on that later though.

Batman vs. Superman:
I really wanted to see the Superman/Batman storyline of "The Girl From Krypton be adapted. As there was little hints to Supergirl in "The Man of Steel" and the prequel comic starred her. I would change it around though, so Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman are all looking for Supergirl separately. Wonder Woman believes she is another Amazonian, Batman finds out about her and sees her as another threat to earth. Superman, wants to find another of his kind. Lex Luthor should be the villain, where he is also after Supergirl, to 1) use her for his bidding 2) have her attack different cities to put blame on Superman. I would also include Metallo or some other secondary villain to fight. No Darkseid like how there is "The Girl From Krypton." Lastly, I would have that all three main heroes have never meet before, so there is some distrust throughout the film. I would call the film "The Last Son of Krypton"

Now, most people and rumors have said that after "Batman vs. Superman" will be a Justice League film and could be shot back to back. I'm sorry but I don't feel this is the right way to go. As much as DC wants to be different from the Marvel formula, this is the one area they should copy. If we take Phase 1 of Marvel, there was 5 films before "The Avengers". DC should copy this idea, enough to expand their cinematic universe. I would have the following be "Phase 1" of DCCU: "Man of Steel", "Batman vs. Superman", "Fastest Man Alive(Flash film)", "Emerald Knights(Green Lantern, Green Arrow team up film), and "Justice League".

Some notes about the films above:
Both Flash and Green Arrow would be from the same continuity of the television shows on the CW, except it will be maybe 5 years down the road, enough to, if need be to recast Flash, Green Arrow with different actors. That way the television shows could keep going on with the current actors and be prequels to the movies. Flash will have probably have Captain Cold as a villain. Green Lantern will be Hal Jordan, plain and simple, he is the most famous Lantern to the general public. Deathstroke and Sinestro will be the villains of that film.

As for the Justice League film, I feel the villain should NOT be Darkseid, there is a whole universe of villains to use. I would use Brainiac and Doomsday. I would definitely have Brainiac attack Wonder Woman's homeland and dig into Wonder Woman's origins. Brainiac will be the creator of Doomsday in this film. The Justice League line-up will be Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Green Arrow and possibly Supergirl. Now I know, where is Martian Manhunter and Aquaman? I feel DC should put them into the "Phase 2" of their films. That way "Justice League" isn't too crowd and these characters get the proper introduction they need.

Finally, I believe that "Justice League" does end with a cliffhanger in which Superman dies during the climatic battle with Doomsday(possibly combination Doomsday/Brainaic creature). Heroes do win but lose Superman in the process which leads to the first film of "Phase 2" of DCCU which I would call "Man of Tomorrow", which would be the adaption of "The Return of Superman" storyline.

See I like both those actors, Amell does an awesome job on Arrow. And I have no problem with them playing those characters. I just feel 1) the heads of the studios will want someone more famous to be them and 2)some fans will complain to no end about them playing those characters

I personally dont think doomsday alone would make a great movie, but perhaps not a bad one either.

thing about doomsday is that he's nearly immortal.
you could have him in a superman movie, "Killed" off, and then brought back by brainiac in a JL movie as one of his pawns.

but i just dont think a character like that, that basically doesn't talk, will make for a good main villain in a movie. it might have worked in the animated movie, but i dont think it'll work in the big screen where the movie would be like 2 hours or more.

Great write up and you articulate some good ideas about the future of DC's projects.

1. John Stewart is more famous than Hal Jordan to the general public. People that were fans of JLU but not the comics wondered why Green Lantern wasn't black in the Green Lantern movie.
2. They would never make a Green Lantern/Green Arrow team up film and never should. That movie would honestly suck balls.
3. Doomsday should be in a solo Superman film.
4. JL line up should be Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg if you are doing a Brainiac film.

@RedHood13 Why would a Green Lantern/Green Arrow movie suck, I think the best Green Arrow stories were where he teamed up with GL. You could modernize those social causes stories for the modern day. I understand the New 52 has that lineup, but I always felt Cyborg is a weak character and I've never really caught on to Aquaman. I understand in the New 52, he has become more of a presence. But I would wait for an Aquaman film in "Phase 2" just like how Aquaman wasn't in the first tradeback of New 52 "Justice League".

@MightyZeus Thanks, Yeah I think this would be the best way to go for them.

@GoldSlayer1 Doomsday, I think you could change that were he does speak. Also, having Brainiac as the central villain, gives him the need not to talk.

you guys know there are things such as prequels?

Business wise its much more better to do a JL movie and introduce them all first.
because you're introducing multiple characters at once, that allows the movie makers to see if the public likes said characters before spending 150-200 million dollars on a solo movie.

also because it makes the character more popular to the general public before their actual movie comes out.

we already know a crap ton of people will watch Justice League, just like many saw the avengers. but how many people would watch a movie about aquaman?

just check how the last non superman/batman movie turned out (green lantern), it flopped.

and yeah i know they made a superman before JL, but superman is the popular character. he's the one pushing this franchise into JL, just like Ironman pushed his into the avengers.

This is what is wrong with DC now. everyone wants to see Green Arrow which has a decent show. but that character really has no business in the arena with a Justice League movie. Unlike Hawkeye where he was support for the other heroes. I really couldnt see his strength in a JL movie with such awesome characters. JL really needs to focus on doing what Marvel is not and that is diversity. Back in the day what Marvel did different was they were more diverse in characters and character range than DC that is why they rose to the top of comicdom. Do not introduce Braniac in the first movie that will be too much like Ultron. Martian Manhunter makes sense due to the abilty to expand his story with the White Martians and GL. WW makes sense for female inclusion. And Cyborg could really help with the government angle and STAR Labs. Doomsday would be good but there would have to be a more cerebral villain involved for plot purposes with a connection to Doomsday

@Doughdzm
Well in the JLU show it was Lex Luthor who experimented on a captured doomsday and brainwashed him into hating superman.

Also Brainiac IMO should start out in a superman movie (perhaps superman 3, after Superman 2 and JL?) and then expanded in a JL league movie with the luthor brainiac fusion. (theres also the Darkseid brainiac fusion)

@Hulksmash88 ...WTF JL N52 did you read? Aquamans been a member since the first issue!

Aquaman IS a founder . He is NOT some secondary character , he is one if DC's best and greatest. He needs to be in this movie! The ONLY SLIGHTLY and I mean SLIGHTY other way he could be introduced if not in JL is to have the entirety of the second movie based upon THRONE OF ATLANTIS and a solo movie BEFORE. ONLY WAY

Ummm.....yeah.....let me think.......no. Just no. About the only thing I liked about this is that I would like to see Supergirl, but not this soon. The film is bordering on overcrowded already. I also can agree with connecting the TV shows, but only Flash should be in the movies. Leave Arrow where he is, and definitely do NOT switch actors. Sorry, but I didn't change so much in 5 years that I looked like a completely different person, and neither would they.

As for the rest, no. Justice League does need to follow Superman/Batman. Then maybe do some solo movies, after they see which characters connect with general audiences. Between the TV show for Flash and the movies, 4 of the members will have been introduced. That just leaves 1-3 more, depending on how many they use. I personally think they should only use 5, or 6 at absolute most. And no, Aquaman should NOT be in it. I like him fine, and it sounds like they are gonna use him, if you believe the rumors. But I have a very hard time seeing general audiences accept him, and WB should do everything possible to appeal to general audiences, even if it makes fanboy purists whine and moan and cry. This is why I would also leave out Martian Manhunter and use Cyborg. I just think general audiences would relate to a young adult being transformed in that way than to another alien who is the last of his race. Superman has that covered. And if the first JL breaks the bank, you can use those 2 in the next one.

Finally, they should never, never use the Death of Superman. Trying to directly copy a comic is just dumb. Come up with original stories, and let the comic stories stay in the comics. Plus, I don't really like the idea of Superman dying, and having him die just to come back just cheapens it.

@Lhornbk

If movies only ever came out giving what they thought the general public wanted we'd get a never ending stream of superman/batman/and spider-man movies. I don't give a $#*+ what you THINK the general public wants to see because you obviously know nothing of the sort. They want to see a great movie with great character dynamics and scenes that will keep everyone talking. The hulk did that in the Avengers. He had funny and kick-@$$ scenes and everyone loved him. Aquaman is the Justice League's Hulk. He will steal the scene I guarantee it, especiallly if everyone goes in expecting him to be some wimpy fish guy.

People who say that "Keep it simple and don't do anything out of the norm" are the people who are holding DC/WB back. It's the reason GL sucked! They kept it simple with him on earth, no expanded universe, and a butchering of Parallax. If you don't let the movie and it's characters be all they can be then the movie will suck
