UPDATE: WB Not Budging BATMAN/SUPERMAN Release (For Now) Despite CAPTAIN AMERICA 3

With Marvel/Disney officiating the release of Captain America 3 on the same day as Batman vs. Superman, a Warner Bros. rep says that they, too, plan to stand their ground… for the time being.

Following yesterdays confirmation that Marvel Studios/Disney will release their third installment to the Captain America franchise on May 6, 2016, the very same day that Warner Bros. currently plans to release its Man of Steel follow-up Batman vs. Superman, Bloomberg has received comment from the latter studio on the potential 2016 comic book movie showdown. “It doesn’t make a lot of sense for two huge superhero films to open on the same date but there is a lot of time between now and 5/6/16,” said Dan Fellman, the president of domestic distribution for Warner Bros. “However at this time, we are not considering a change of date for Batman vs. Superman.” While Disney failed to comment, the president of domestic distribution for 21st Century Fox also weighed in on the matter: “A lot of films are announced many years in advance now, and some of it is posturing,” said Chris Aronson. More shots fired? What do you think?

UPDATE: Even though neither Marvel/Disney nor Warner Bros. plan to move their respective blockbusters at this time, Digital Spy reports that Batman Vs. Superman is slated for an earlier release in the UK on April 29, 2016, via the FDA. This, however, is not surprising considering even all of Marvel
s films have had earlier international release dates. Anyhow, the site also received comment from Captain America 3 co-director Joe Russo: Everybody likes to imagine a flame war that'll start over this, but it's not, he said. It's two big movies on a date - neither studio is crazy enought to eat up each other's profits. At some point, somebody's going to move off the date.

The tentively titled Batman vs. Superman is directed by Zack Snyder from a story by David Goyer and screenplay by Chris Terrio. Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Gal Gadot, Diane Lane, Tao Okamoto, Callan Mulvey, with Holly Hunter, Laurence Fishburne, and Jeremy Irons, the film hits May 6, 2016 for now.

I hate how the marvel/dc flame war is now on a business scale. What's good for one company is good for the other, both companies need to understand that.

It's DC who would take the biggest hit from this - they NEED BvS to be successful. They'll move.
DaVinci31

Could it really be that bad though? I mean I don't know a person who saw TWS but didn't see MOS? Even if you didn't like MOS you had to have checked it out.

Kind of like the situation with adding Spider-Man to say, The Avengers: Age of Ultron (which will never happen), in the sense that it wouldn't make that much of a difference because it's the same audience.

Both studios are being childish. But jonestly, BvS will win at the BO.
BruceLeroy
BruceLeroy - 4/8/2014, 6:53 AM
All of this is so unnecessary. This situation wouldn't even exist if WB didn't move into the spot Marvel had already claimed. Batman/Superman is going to make money regardless so moving it isn't going to hurt the film in the least.
Pasto
Pasto - 4/8/2014, 6:53 AM
The biggest slap would be if Marvel moved.

WB/DC usually release their movies in June or July. Why not pick a free date on one of those two months?

WB not moving...

DaVinci31
DaVinci31 - 4/8/2014, 6:56 AM
@BruceLeroy

To be fair, they only claimed the date. No movie announcement or anything, which is what studios do all the time so technically WB had an actual film in production for that date before them.

I hope they move though, at least a week before.

My bet is BvS will move. Cap is now proven, in the hands of capable directors, continuing a story that people are invested in. BvS is WB's only film, it HAS to work and make as much money as possible. It's the linchpin to WB/DC's whole strategy. If it's numbers are lower cuz of Cap or if the film is so-so it could screw up everything. Why risk it? Seems like WB took the date to stick it to Marvel, to make them blink. It's all about ego. Zero upside to them keeping that date.

Honestly, WB has some balls for sticking to their guns. If they moved 95% of you would have said "LOL WB is a big bitch, look at them run." So now that WB IS staying (For now) they are painted as morons. Seems logical.
MercwithMouth

"Both studios are being childish."

No, WB is being childish. Marvel picked that date first and WB came and put their movie there. Marvel said they're not moving because of course, they claimed it first.

The funny part will be if Marvel moves... People will applaud them for being the "bigger man", but if WB moves, they're chicken shits.

WB isn't being childish, they just made a bad move. Being childish would be if they took the spot THEN started throwing insults Marvel's way at like a movie premier or something...
MercwithMouth
MercwithMouth - 4/8/2014, 7:00 AM
I have a theory though...

WB has no intent of staying on that date. They only booked that date, so they could get Marvel to announce what movie they're releasing BEFORE comic-con. Take a little wind outta the Hall H show.
