Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was a movie full of very interesting imagery and director Zack Snyder has now taken to social media to confirm a long standing fan theory about one specific scene.

Now, as you'll recall, much of the movie revolves around the fallout of Superman's destructive battle with General Zod in Man of Steel and when one fan on Vero theorised that the scene where the hero is surrounded by those celebrating the Day of the Dead may have deeper meaning, Snyder confirmed that's the case. They suggested that the onlookers dressed as skeletons were representative of those who died during the fight and that Clark is unable to let go of the dead and be the saviour they want.

That just goes to show how much thought Snyder put into the movie and the visual he utilised throughout. Of course, the filmmaker focused a lot of religious iconography in Batman v Superman, so this probably shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. What do you think about this revelation?

@jerryblake - Viewed in a bubble, this scene has more significance and is much more interesting. However, Man of Steel was a complete re-telling of the Christ story from the Bible. When he kills Zod, it is like when Jesus takes on the original sin of man to save the world. Afterwards, when he talks to the Army General after downing their drone and then flies up into the sky, it is the same as when Jesus told his disciples to go to Jerusalem (Washington DC in MoS) and spread his message before ascending to Heaven. So, it just seems very strange to tell the story of a Superman who is reluctant to act as their savior after he's already been their savior to completion. It's the equivalent of Jesus going through everything he went through on Earth and then having second thoughts only after he gets back to Heaven.

@BackwardGalaxy - That's why I always say Zack Snyder's personal perspective on Superman is that he is, as quoted in Batman v Superman, "not some devil, or Jesus character, he's just a guy trying to do the right thing." His journey will occasionally mirror that of Christ. But it's not the same. Especially since there was never a point in which Jesus seriously cocked up in doing his job, like when Superman fails to save the people in Africa or the dead in the Capitol bombing.

@BackwardGalaxy - thats such a dumb theory. your desperate comparisons make no sense. you can do that with anything. too many sunday schools hey? ok post man pat delivering mail to people is like jesus delivering the word of god. another example. when i take a shit, its like jesus dying for the sins of man. transformers is the jesus story to. optimus prime moves and jesus moves to, so optimus is jesus. i can go all day. its just a movie mate, chilllllll.....
