Zack Snyder Says Gal Gadot's 'Wonder Woman' Is "Fierce"

Zack Snyder seems to be everywhere when it comes to talking about his upcoming DC film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In a recent interview with Filmink, the director talked about how important it is to have a powerful female character like Wonder Woman on the big screen. "It’s an amazing opportunity to have Wonder Woman in the film. We haven’t had a female superhero of that magnitude, and it’s an amazing opportunity for the world to get behind an amazing, powerful female character. I’m happy that we have the opportunity to do that. Half of my movies have female leads…maybe that’s because I have so many strong women in my life. I’m not in the least surprised by a strong female superhero. I’m shocked that it hasn’t happened sooner. By the way, I highly recommend Jill Lepore’s book, The Secret History Of Wonder Woman, if you haven’t read it; it’s amazing, and truly epic." It looks like Snyder truly understands how important Wonder Woman is not just for the fans, but also to everyone.

The director then went on to reveal exactly how hard it was to find the perfect actress to portray the Amazonian princess and why Gal Gadot was perfect for the role. "We tested a bunch of actresses, as you can imagine. But the thing with Gal is that she’s strong, she’s beautiful, and she’s a kind person, which is interesting, but fierce at the same time. It’s that combination of being fierce but kind at the same time that we were looking for. She can get serious, but she’s amazingly fun to be around. And by the way, she really held her own with Ben in the screen test. Ben was like, ‘Whoa, that girl is something else!’ That was a good sign, because Ben is very tough in the scene, and he’s big and commanding. Anytime that you’re doing a test like that and you’re looking at the other person, you’re thinking, ‘Okay, that’s good stuff.’ That was part of the process, and over time as we got to know Gal, we found out how amazing she is." When the director was asked if they had to see a lot of actresses for the role and how many it came down to, Snyder had this to say, "We did… I can’t even remember how many in terms of interviews, but for the final test, I think that we tested six actresses. But we interviewed and saw hundreds, so it was a pretty exhausting process." It would be interesting to find out who the other five actresses are.

The recent trailer for Batman v Superman surprised DC fans with some incredible footage of Wonder Woman saving Batman in what looks to be the climactic fight of the film. Snyder then spoke about just how big Wonder Woman's role is. "No, she has a cameo in this movie. No, actually… it’s bigger than a cameo. She comes in and does something." Snyder was also asked about the how the joke at the end of the trailer between Batman and Superman came about. "The ‘Is she with you?’ joke at the end of the trailer? You have to see the movie, because it gears into the drama of what’s happening, and if you see it in the context of the film, it completely makes sense that the two of them were trying to figure out who she is…" The director finishes off by talking about the Trinity's dynamic towards the end of the film and what brings them together. "Well, they’re forced together, which you get a sense of from the trailer. They’re forced to work together." The Trinity dynamic certainly doesn't sound like it'll be a friendly one at first. What do you think of Zack Snyder's comments? Are you excited to see Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25th, 2016.

Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, and Holly Hunter, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder, written by Chris Terrio from David S. Goyer's screenplay.

Ugh, reading Zack Snyder attempt to explain the process of making a compelling comic book movie is like listening to a toddler explain thermonuclear physics.

Nice to get some insight into the casting process on this. MAN of STEEL was beautifully cast and the choices are far more connected at first glance than BATMAN v SUPERMAN. But Gadot has a strong presence so far and was obviously chosen for unique attributes.

They're going to have to surprise me with Mamoa tho. I understand his casting, but can he engage an audience with more than just brute imagery.

Cmon I just want to see one comic book fan disagree. Marvel fans. One of you bring up Black Widow or Elizabeth Olsen (or just post pictures of Elizabeth Olsen). DC fans someone bring up Black Canary or Catwoman or Supergirl.

Please I need a good laugh.
