The chances of Jared Leto returning in
The Suicide Squad are somewhere between slim and none given past comments James Gunn has made about the actor, so his future as the Clown Prince of Crime is now very much up in the air. There's been talk of a solo movie for his version of The Joker, but the planned team-up with Harley Quinn has seemingly been scrapped.
Now, Leto has said that
"I would definitely play the Joker again. It all depends on the script and the circumstances as it always does." Asked whether he'll appear in the upcoming
Birds of Prey, he added:
"I don’t think so. You’d have to ask them...Well, we’ll see."
Set photos have shown what appeared to be a stand-in for Leto kicking Harley out of their house before she joins Gotham's Birds of Prey, but whether Warner Bros. will actually get the Oscar-winner back to film close-ups is hard to say, and his response doesn't really clear anything up.
Confirming that he hasn't watched the trailer for
Joker ,which stars Joaquin Phoenix, Leto did go on to say that the more superhero movies in theaters, the better.
"I mean, five or 10 years ago, I don’t know if we thought that there would be people this excited about going to the movies this weekend," he said referring to
Avengers: Endgame.
