Cameras are now rolling on Marvel Studios' upcoming Wonder Man Disney+ series, and the first photos from the set have been shared online.

Unfortunately, we don't have a first look at Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the titular hero or Demetrius Grosse as his brother Eric Williams, aka the Grim Reaper, but the snaps do provide a glimpse of Sir Ben Kingsley as the returning Trevor Slattery.

The eccentric Slattery was introduced in Iron Man 3 as the "Fake Mandarin," and recently popped up for a memorable role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. We're not sure what part he'll play in Wonder Man, but he is an actor, and the show has been described as a "Hollywood satire."

Check out the photos at the link below.

The project has also been called a “a love letter to LA and the industry," and producers Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest are said to be going for a tone similar to shows such as Silicon Valley, Dave, and Barry.

Stella Meghie (The Photograph) had been tapped to direct multiple episodes. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is on board as a writer along with Brooklyn Nine-Nine, 30 Rock, and Community scribe Andrew Guest, who will also serve as showrunner.

No premiere date has been announced.

Alright. It was a good pull bringing him back for Shang-chi but I think it’s time to let the joke die.

@Ha1frican - honestly this placement makes sense. Hopefully it's just a cameo or fake trailer of some sort.

@Slotherin - I didn’t say it doesn’t make sense, just that the joke is already overplayed

@Ha1frican - I get you. I'm hoping it's just connective tissue and nothing they ham up too much.

@Slotherin - If he’s like a cameo it’s not like a big deal but if he’s in for more than like 1 episode I’m gonna groan lol I’d rather they take a more modern one off character like Madisynn from She-Hulk. She’s equally as dumb but the joke hasn’t QUITE been overdone yet imo

@GeneralZod - My thoughts entirely. The twist in Ironman 3 was to me the singular worst atrocity in the MCU. Ben Kingsley’s take on the Mandarin was one of the most chilling villains we’ve seen bar only the Red Skull and Thanos.

I mean it makes sense given the character's acting background, but in my opinion this character shouldn't even exist.

Oh God, this is not funny any more 🤦🏻‍♂️ Please Marvel, I used to love you, why do you keep doing this to me? I think we need to have a talk. If you can’t give me a serious relationship like we used to have when we first got together, I’m going to leave and never come back. This is just abuse.

@jarcastanon - They really need to take a good look at what they are doing, and start hearing the fans for a change. Risky projects worked at first, but now they will flop without a doubt. They are on the last chances they will get to save the franchise from dying.

I don't get the hate. It's going to be set in LA, and a "love letter to LA", and he is an actor. There is a connection. It's not forced. Hating for the sake of hate and ridicule has become a full on national pastime.

Im convinced that we need to complain and hate on all of the stuff that we love in order for them to actually do it

More jokey trash like the last episode of She-Hulk & all of Thor 4.

Mickey the Rat can't possibly think this is what people want.

Marvel has always had comedic moments in their movies, but they were never flat out comedies. The moments, some better than others, always felt they came from a place of character not a writer trying to fill some joke per minute quota.

I honestly cannot imagine what movies like Iron Man 1, Winter Solider, Civil War, Avengers etc would have turned out with the current writing team.
Spike101
Spike101 - 4/13/2023, 3:44 AM
@Knightrider - it’s honestly tragic the state of the output now. I can only hope that the recent clear out is to address this and things might just get better. That said seeing them flogging this dead horse again I’m not so sure.
Spike101
Spike101 - 4/13/2023, 3:48 AM
What utter garbage. What has the once great MCU become? They got us all hooked with some amazing output like Ironman 1 with the huge attention to detail of the suit being assembled and disassembled and the flying scenes, and the First Avenger with its very comic book feel to it and now we have this. The only glimmer of goodness between these bookends was anything to do with the Russo brothers and of course the Netflix shows.

Trevor was the worst swerve in mcu history, it was literally cancer to iron man 3. This is barely a reason to use him, at least he gets an easy paycheck

I still don't understand what their end goal with this character is.

They wasted so much potential casting Kingsley as the real mandarin, you know...since Trevor supposedly had plastic surgery to make him resemble the real mandarin.
