BIRDS OF PREY: Newcomer Ella Jay Basco Is In Negotiations For The Role Of Cassandra Cain

It looks like all the major roles in Warner Bros. and director Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey have now been filled, as Variety reports that Newcomer Ella Jay Basco will portray Casandra Cain in the R-rated "girl gang" movie.

She'll join the returning Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, and Ewan Mcgregor as the villainous Black Mask.

There's barely any info available for Basco online, but we do know that this will be her feature debut having previously appeared in the likes of Grey’s Anatomy, Veep, and Superior Donuts.

The trade's report also shares some new plot details. It seems Harley and the others will team-up to "protect Cain’s character when she comes across a diamond belonging to McGregor’s Black Mask, a kingpin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld."

Birds of Prey is set to fly into theaters on February 7, 2020.

Have absolutely no idea who she is. I hope she kills it.

@WakandaTech - and 2019 Shazam. the 2021 lineup is still kinda up in the air but if they confirm it all then your right. Thats just based off Flash and Batmans production issues that have been happening. New Gods may or may not its been quiet on that.

@WakandaTech

Also Suicide Squad 2 lost Gavin O’Conner so that movie is in limbo.

@regularmovieguy - isnt that why they replaced him qith James Gunn?? Or is he just writing?

@MrCamw1

Oh, shit you're right. Lol I forgot about James Gunn coming on board. Apparently Gavin O'Conner's story was really similar to that of Birds of Prey and I think both movies might've involved Black Mask to some extent.

@regularmovieguy - yeah it seems to have gone quiet. Since i got your attention i wanna pitch storywise how i would do SS 2:

Waller recruits task force x to infiltrate and unknown country due to rumors of said terrorsts in the country having some sort of bomb. By the end of the movie the it is learned by the team the the country is Kahndaq and the "bomb" is actually Black Adam. He discovers Americans sent soldiers into the country and kills them brutally except for one survivor who lets Waller know of the discovery. Also revealed Waller knew the bomb was a powered being but neglected to tell Task Force X just so she could confirm the intel.

Thats my general idea.

@MrCamw1

It’s already miles better than SS. No, I dig it. I want Task Force X dropped into enemy territory out of their element. Black Adam would be a cool villain too.

The sequel should definitely lean towards more practical action than CGI too 👌🏻

Oh wow she is so little. I thought it was someone older-ish like the rest of the actresses.

But in the comics she did start as little in the assassin business so it is not that far away from making sense.

Good luck to her.

@NinnesMBC - so maybe flashback sequence??
dracula

@NinnesMBC - Well she is a bit older in the comics, but they also aged down Laura in Logan, so as long as whoever they get is good and the script is good, then it should be fine
