BLACK PANTHER Passes STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS To Become Most Tweeted About Movie Ever

Social media plays a huge role in the marketing of movies these days and what fans say on Twitter makes a difference. So, it probably won't surprise you that Black Panther received a lot of attention!

It's been revealed today that Black Panther has broken yet another record as it is officially the most Tweeted about movie in history. The social media website confirmed that the Marvel Comics adaptation has been Tweeted about more than 35 million times, an incredible feat which puts it ahead of previous record holder, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. For now, The Last Jedi remains in third place.

Over the weekend, Black Panther became the first movie since Avatar to remain at the top of the North American box office for five straight weekends. As of right now, the Ryan Coogler helmed release has grossed more than $607 domestically for a total of $1.2 billion worldwide. That's an amazing result and it's thought that it will pass the global haul of The Avengers at some point in the next week or so.

The majority of these Black Panther Tweets came from the US, while the UK and Thailand weren't far behind. The overwhelmingly positive response to the movie online no doubt helped it at the box office and it's now going to be very interesting seeing how Avengers: Infinity War fares in comparison. Black Panther is still going strong. There’s a chance that Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War will be in the theaters at the same time.

Yeah but imagine if Twitter was around in the 1940's, CASABLANCA: are you #TeamRick or #TeamLazlo?

@FromACertainPOV - I visited a alternative universe once where the nazis had control of twitter. So progandish and scary, yet to stylish.

@DeadCipher - Hugo Boss man, they might be fascists but they look good.

I had a similar dream where literal Nazi's and White Supremacists were allowed twitter accounts and permitted to send threats, vitriol and abuse to people without repercussions because "context matters" but LGBT terminology was hidden from search engines and queer people who referred to themselves as such got reported.

Wait

No that was real life. That's actually happening.

Black Panther remains number 1 right up until Infinity War debuts....and then they run number 1 and 2 right up until Ant-Man and The Wasp.....and then the run 1,2,3 until the next MCU release....thus creating a domination virus chain that virtually erases all other Hollywood releases until eternity.....

@411IDSigo - yeah that's actually a big deal

and we all could have guessed that you'd get triggered by this news

@user047 - @user047 - Is it though? I feel as though it would mean more if we had some sort of break down on the numbers and how they actually recorded it.

Which demographics (not just geographically)? In what context? Does it included sites like this that tweet links to articles about rumours and box office statistics or is it just normal user engagements. Was it in anticipation of or in response to the film?

Otherwise it doesn't really mean or tell us anything. Just that there's a lot of noise about it in some capacity on social media and no real specifics.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the film and I clearly don't know what the deal is with you, @411IDSigo and Black Panther but to be fair to them, it's a weird non-accolade to have.

@FromACertainPOV - The deal I have with Black Panther was the attacks on people who dared to criticize the movie. I proved my point very early on.

I have been a Marvel stalwart from the beginning. I don't love everything they do, and have found flaws in many of their movies, but I have never been so vehemently attacked as when I dared criticize Black Panther. Not only that but I have been called racist simply because I dared to criticize a movie that has a predominantly Black cast.

It all started when I dared to speak facts:

- Black Panther is not the first Black comic book hero to be portrated on film. Blade did it decades ago.

- Black Panther is not the first movie with a predominantly Black cast. There have been dozens of them.

- Black Panther is not the first movie to show a wealthy, royal, African, Black society. Coming To America did it decades ago.

And because I dared to take Black Panther to task I was automatically called racist....while I said nothing racist.

That's the cop out today. Disagree with anything and you are racist or misogynist. The reason people use these buzz words is because their own arguments are weak and without substance. So they have to resort to name calling.

I was 100% hyped for Black Panther when I saw him debut in Civil War and when I heard they were giving him his own movie. I was incredibly excited....but then too many painted this movie as the second coming of Christ and they got more upset....and of course called me racist...when I said, it's just a comic book movie.

I had the same problem with Wonder Woman and all of the fuss, and I was called misogynist by some. But the ones who vehemently defend Black Panther never attacked me when I dared criticize Wonder Woman for basically the same reasons. ...Gee...I wonder why?

@GoldGuy - It's just tweeting. When you don't have content or context a random tweet means nothing. It could simply be a retweet or someone saying "#BlackPanther sucks"

It's not like unique views on YouTube. That is truly impressive.

Even box office is not that impressive when you count people who pay to see the movie more than once, or celebrities who buy 100 tickets for inner city kids to get them to go see the movie.
GoldGuy
GoldGuy - 3/21/2018, 7:55 AM
@411IDSigo - Ok, you lost me with that last paragraph. How is it not impressive when people pay more than once? That just shows how much people liked the movie. Heck, I'm pretty sure all the highest grossing movies had many people rewatching a lot.
VictorKrueger
VictorKrueger - 3/21/2018, 7:58 AM
@GoldGuy - I understand that people are paying to see a movie more than once, but I'm talking from the perspective of unique views.

If a person likes a movie they are the ones move likely to pay to see it again. If you rated movies based on unique views that would be a far more accurate gauge. That's all I'm saying.
Kyos
Kyos - 3/21/2018, 8:49 AM
@411IDSigo - Much as I would love to some solid statistic on unique views... are you sure you're not just trying to come up with a new angle at attempting to downplay the success of Black Panther?
VictorKrueger
VictorKrueger - 3/21/2018, 9:03 AM
@Kyos - There you go. Just like the others, always looking for special treatment for Black Panther.

What's wrong with you people seriously? It's just a comic book movie.
user047
user047 - 3/21/2018, 9:27 AM
@411IDSigo - black panther is so beyond special treatment at this point, the movie can proudly stand on its own massive achievements

it'll be the highest grossing superhero movie domestically soon and the third highest worldwide. it has been the top movie domestically for 5 weekends straight and set so many records and exceeded so many expectations

yeah infinity war will very likely take some of those records but the solo superhero ones will still remain and it will be a long time coming before another solo superhero movie takes those

and it's just a comic book movie that has become this big event and dominated the zeitgeist. and well given the name of this site and the interests of its users, a comic book movie being this popular, beloved and gaining all of these achievements is a really big deal, no matter how much you try and fail to downplay it
Kyos
Kyos - 3/21/2018, 9:27 AM
@411IDSigo - I'm not "looking for special treatment for Black Panther", I'm just wondering why you voice your desire for movies to be judged by a non-existent and non-achievable metric in response to the overwhelming success of this specific movie.
VictorKrueger
VictorKrueger - 3/21/2018, 9:36 AM
@Kyos - Clearly you are looking for special treatment. I simply mentioned unique views as true milestone when compared to ridiculous "Twitter mentions" and then made the correlation to unique box office views as a metric.

You are the one to applied it directly as an affront to Black Panther.
Between that movie and Wonder Woman I guess no other movies need to be made since they are the greatest ever to the fan boys.
VictorKrueger
VictorKrueger - 3/21/2018, 9:38 AM
@user047 - Iron Man was the first to accomplish these feats and such a fuss wasn't made over that movie, why? Because it is just a comic book movie.

Even Iron Man 3 wasn't lauded over when it broke records.
But for some reason some people think Black Panther needs to have such a fuss made over it. ....as if it NEEDS the special attention for some reason.

It's just a comic book movie. That's all.
user047
user047 - 3/21/2018, 10:03 AM
@411IDSigo - what are talking about?

a big deal was made every time a superhero movie or any movie made certain accomplishments. especially iron man 3, the avengers and the dark knight

when episode 7 was getting similar praise and recognition, there weren't people crying that it was just a sci-fi movie. or that dark knight or the avengers were just comic book movies. even last year when wonder woman was getting the same exact thing. but apparently black panther can't get that recognition

but like I said already, black panther is so far beyond any special treatment, it has actual records, achievements, popularity and love

you can keep crying about it if you'd like though
VictorKrueger
VictorKrueger - 3/21/2018, 10:14 AM
@user047 - Those movies weren't treated as the greatest movies ever in most cases. Only Wonder Woman was treated that way.

But I too criticized The Dark Knight as just a crime drama and The Force Awakens as too rushed and not properly developed.
I didn't criticize The Avengers because I thought it was incredibly well done and did the super hero team up the best it has ever been done.

But of course I, and others only get attacked for daring to critcize Black Panther...and Wonder Woman.

I wonder why that is. hmmmmm
user047
user047 - 3/21/2018, 10:55 AM
@411IDSigo - I doubt anyone is saying that, but black panther might actually be those people's favorite movie ever. anyway why do you care so much about other people's opinions?

and it's refreshing to see you bare your insecurities like this. most people work really hard to hide those

I don't care what you said about any of those movies, that literally has nothing to do with this discussion. but when any movie achieves something special it should be recognized for it, especially a comic book movie on this site

and what sites have you been paying attention to? because whenever someone criticizes the avengers or the dark knight people come out of everywhere triggered as hell, especially on this site. just look at any article about black panther being the highest rated superhero movie or the one where nolan said it could get nominated for best picture. hell even people who loved black panther are getting upset that it's going to beat the avengers domestically

it's clear that you're just trying to make this into something, but to call black panther "just a comic book movie" is like saying Michael Jordan was just a basketball player, Michael Phelps was just a swimmer or the patriots are just a football team. you're completely undermining the great accomplishments that were achieved
VictorKrueger
VictorKrueger - 3/21/2018, 11:43 AM
@user047 - The real question is why do you care?

You are coming out of ban-ville into the tail end of this conversation. You are speaking outside of your depth.
