We've previously heard that at least one Black Panther: Wakanda Forever spin-off show focusing on General Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje was in the works for Disney+, but a new rumor is now claiming that an animated series is also in development.

We don't have many details, but according to Above the Line's Jeff Sneider on this week's episode of John Rocha's The Hot Mic podcast, the show will be titled The Golden City, and Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler is involved.

Whether that would be as a writer, director or producer (or all three) is unclear.

The Golden City, also known as Birnin Zana, is the capital city of the Kingdom of Wakanda, and has featured in several MCU movies. Since this location is the show's title, we'd assume the story would focus on a large group of characters and the inner workings of the city, but that's pure speculation on our part.

It might be worth noting that an animated project would allow for the return of T'Challa if they decided to tell a story set between the events of the movies. Whether Marvel would want to revisit the character without the late Chadwick Boseman is difficult to say, but this would be the ideal opportunity to do so.

I forgot there was a spin-off in development. Sounds cool.

So our only hope for more of this character is in this animated series? And that's if speculation is true, as nothings confirmed?

@Origame - Unless you want a variant of T'challa or the younger one aged up, yes.

I'm sure either of those would evoke a negative response as well.

@EskimoJ - not since people learned from his brother that Chadwick wanted the role to live on.

It's not (just) about what people on social media say. It's about what is truly respectful to his legacy and what it means for the story being told. It was a short-sighted decision to not recast the character and to instead kill him off off screen. It serves nothing but to make the meta of the actor dying the plot of this new adventure abruptly. Meaning they are literally banking on Chadwick dying.

This would be really cool. We need more marvel animated series and Panther is prime material, especially focusing on the locales of Wakanda.

I do hope it’s elseworlds of sorts and we can get T’Challa.

The MCU can't even get their current projects sorted, I have great doubts that anything they announce will ever happen

Y'all keep refreshing Jeff Sneider's twitter for scoops but he's often contradicted by other people on there

@ShellHead - ever since the dcu debacle, I take all these "scoops" with a big truckload of salt.

I’ve been wanting something based around the inner workings of Wakanda so I’m pretty stoked for this. Exploring wakandians through the ranks and how they handle slowly being integrated in the rest of the world could be really rad.

I guess it makes sense considering a Wakanda series was already set to be in development. Although that might as well be it's own thing.

And paired with the rumoured Okoye special and Midnight Angels show, it's a lot of Wakanda for Coogler. Just don't believe any of it. He's probably busy with Secret Wars.

I do like the idea of taking more time to explore Wakanda.

Glad we're getting more Wakanda lore. Looking forward to the Black Panther game also.

Too many things going on Disney+. Honestly need less shows and more quality. Would it be nice to explore Wankanda, sure... but this really isn't needed at all. Time to cut back on shows and make them better

Geez, don't waste Coogler on this. They need him signed and all in on the next BP movie.

No one cares about peripheral spin-offs like this.
