Does Chiwetel Ejiofor Have Any Interest In Playing A Superhero?

The 12 Years A Slave actor is many fans' pick to play Black Panther on the big screen, and during the following video interview with Collider Ejiofor is asked if he'd have any interest (though not in that character specifically). Click on to hear what he has to say..

The majority of the interview deals with Ejiofor's performance in 12 Years A Slave, but right around the 2:45 mark he's asked about possibly playing a superhero character, and if he's been approached in the past. "I've never had a conversation about it with any of the big cheeses!" he admits, "but definitely I'm a huge fan of all that so that would be definitely stuff that I'd be interested in." So there you go -- no official talks for any roles unfortunately, but if interest is there it might only be a matter of time!

Great actor but not my choice for Black Panther.... They really need to cast an unknown actor for Africa instead trying to cast every great black actor there is... Next up Michael B. Jordan rumoured to play Luke Cage

You better not have ANY aspirations of acting in a comicbook movie. 99.9% of all comic heros created are White, so if you don't lobby for the 1% of Black characters available you're SOL! The comicbook community feels that race is the biggest part of a character eventhough the only thing that indicates his race is the artists depiction of him. Which supersedes the ideals, motivations, powers, conflicts, and characteristics in the minds of your average comicbook fan. Characters who are defined by their race and place of origin like Omega Red, understandably Black characters aren't considered, however any character who is drawn as White, and not necessarily defined as being White, you're still not welcome to play those parts, because the way they were drawn is not Black. Black comicbook fans around the world never had any problems seeing themselves in White hero's like Superman, Batman, Wolverine, Spiderman, etc. Unfortunately, many of their White counterparts are turned off by the notion of attempting to see themselves in Black Comic hero's, that's why they don't sell. So you're stuck in the 1% world of Black Hero's that rooted in them Being Black, not necessarily heroic.

Chiwtel is my pick to play T'Challa based purely on his performance as The Operative in Serenity. He was a chilling and physical badass who played the roll with an outer grace and an inner fire. He is a TREMENDOUS actor and I have a very hard time thinking of someone better.

Gbenga Akinnagbe. Younger than most of the other actors being suggested.

I wouldn't worry about this Black Panther secretly been in pre-production and has been for ages.

Also, I feel Aldis Hodge's face is too sinister looking to be heroic.

Aldis Hodge and Chiwetel Ejiofor would make a greak T'Challa and T'Chaka

He would be the perfect Black Panther. People tend to forget that he was in Amastad and had a pretty good African accent as well as being fluent in speaking one of the languages. He has the look that T'Chala had without the costume but he would put on about 10lbs of muscle. He also has the ability to sell the movie based off his name alone vs some unknown that has to rely on A list support characters to carry the movie. And people also tend to forget that he is still in his 30'. Should a BP movie be made, it likely wont come out for a minimum of 5 years. The other actors that people want to play the role except Chad Boseman are all in their 40's and 50's.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is going on 40 he'll be like Downey's Iron Man. We need a young actor to play Black Panther in my opinion plus Aldis HAS read multiple Black Panther comic book story arcs ever since he was young, he's physically fit and he can pull off an African-Accent. I'd rather see Chiwetel as T'Chaka!

@TheBlackNerd, I agree with Chiwetel for T'Chaka but I like Gbenga Akinnagbe also for T'Challa... Black Panthers should at most be in his early 30s to start...

"Should be involved in Black Panther but not the titular character."

This, he doesn't look threatening at all, wouldn't be able to buy this guy in the role, couldn't in Four Brothers where he tried to come across as intimidating. I can see him as a laid back character(Serenity), scientist, or corporate businessman but not as an aggressive ninja type character i'm afraid. Would make a good Baxter Stockman though.
