Marvel Co-President Teases GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY & BLACK PANTHER

Marvel will reveal plans for their 2014 movie at their SDCC panel today. It is expected to be GOTG, but Marvel co-president Louis D'Esposito also teases another movie that was rumored first - Black Panther..

MTV caught up with Louis D'Esposito at Comic-Con and asked him about the mysterious 2014 Marvel movie that is going to be announced in Hall H later today. It is widely believed to be Guardians Of The Galaxy, but there have also been rumors of it being Black Panther - or perhaps it'll be none of the above! D'Esposito wouldn't reveal it outright of course, but he did explain the reasoning behind choosing the character(s) they have selected, saying ""It can always be an "Iron Man," "Thor" and "Cap". We need to grow from there.". MTV then asked him about both potential movies, and he definitely hints that either are possibilities, while suggesting GOTG might be a while away, and Black Panther comes with a few difficulties in adaptation.

On Guardians Of The Galaxy..

"That would be Marvel in space," he said. "That's a great concept and a great idea, and potentially one of our films in the future."

On Black Panther..

"He has a lot of the same characteristics of a Captain America: great character, good values," said the Marvel exec. "But it's a little more difficult, maybe, creating [a world like Wakanda]. It's always easier basing it here. For instance, 'Iron Man 3' is rooted right here in Los Angeles and New York. When you bring in other worlds, you're always faced with those difficulties."

Hmmm. Could neither one be the mystery 2014 movie after all? D'Esposito also says that Marvel may possibly consider trying to produce three movies a year instead of their usual two, so it may be even be both! (note: It won't be both) All will be revealed soon.

If you can do Asgard, you can do Wakanda seriously make this black panther movie!

It better be in Wakanda.

Agreed. Wakanda seems easier than Asgard or Space. That's lame, it sounds like hes justifying not making Black Panther! Black Panther FTW!

You cannot do a Black Panther movie not set in Wakanda. That's like trying to do a Thor movie not set in Asgard. It doesn't work.

Guardians of the galaxy has the potential making of a Star Wars with superheroes if done right....
I hope the first movie includes members from both teams....no point in limiting yourself to members from one team or the other...there has been a ton of interesting members throughout the years.

I would have a team with Vance Astro, Rocket Racoon, Star-Lord, Starhawk/Aleta, Nikki, Moondragon, and Drax.
I would leave Groot/Adam Warlock/Nova, etc for a sequel

like the guardians on facebook:

so is difficult to set movies in other words....

isnt that part of what sci-fi movies are supposed to do?

and part of the creative team work?

Marvel did Thor, James Cameron did Avatar, and the list could go on and on.

Black Panther would be so badass!!

They should pull a 'Ultimate Avengers 2' and establish Wakanda as a fiercely private, isolationist sovereign nation. Tie it into Captain America's past.

We already got a loaded gun in the form of that teaser on the S.H.I.E.L.D. map in 'Iron Man 2'. It's time to pull the trigger!!!

I really liked Ultimate Avengers 2, and how they use the Wakanda world.

Im more interested to see new heroes than sequels to Thor and Cap, so lets hope they dont wait much more time for a Black Panther movie, it can be a baddass Marvel movie, and he is a great character, without doubt. Id love to see Wakanda and all those details, sets, and characters. Would bring something totally new to the Marvel cinematic world.

Super Soldier Captain Steve Rogers led the Howling Commandos across Europe in WW2, facing the Red Skull and his Hydra forces, taking on threats that the Allies simply couldn't handle. He saved the world from utter annihilation by sacrificing himself in an act of bravery somewhere in the Arctic Circle and his remains were never recovered. I vaguely remember being taught that in 5th grade History.

Then the movie ended.. but for those 2 hours I BELIEVED IT.

Don't give me that crap that they can't figure out how to translate Black Panther to cinema.

People are jumping on him over a small comment. He said there are difficulties, not that they wouldn't do it. Also remember Thor was only PART in Asgard, the rest was in the US. Black Panther would be 100% Wakanda and creating cgi jungle sets is probably more difficult than cgi buildings because there's an entirely different set of lighting things to worry about. Lay off him, they won't do BP without Wakanda.

I havent watched Apocalypto, but doesnt that movie have a similar tone and sets like how Wakanda is supposed to look?

ancient, majestic, historical looking sets

its not hard to design stuff like that.

much more easier than creating Asgard, something that is futuristic and unrealistic looking.

We have hundreds of years with ancient architecture, so they only have to do some research and design an african empire, close to the comics.

nothing more, nothing less.
