AMC And Regal Theaters Announce Preventative Coronavirus Measures Which May Not Bode Well For BLACK WIDOW

Things aren't looking good for Black Widow meetings its expected release date on May 1st because major theater chains have started imposing restrictions on auditorium capacity from tomorrow onwards!

Today, AMC Theaters became the first major theater chain in the US to announce that they will be reducing capacity in auditoriums by 50% starting tomorrow. Those measures are set to be in place until April 30th, 2020. With fewer films now in the marketplace, this isn't expected to have an overly detrimental affect on ticket sales.

However, with Scarlet Johansson set to return as Marvel's sultry superspy in Black Widow for preview screenings on the 30th, it's possible Disney will start to contemplate postponing the film.

"The health and safety of our guests and theatre teams are of the utmost importance to AMC," says Adam Aron, AMC Theatres CEO. "Therefore, AMC is proactively taking action to cut in half the number of tickets that we will make available at all our U.S. theatres. With this action, we are facilitating the ‘social distance’ between guests who still want to see movies on a big screen."

Regal Cinemas has also reduced auditorium capacity to 50% where applicable with state mandates on social gatherings. "The health and safety of our customers and staff is very important to us," they confirm. "We are continuing to follow and monitor official guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other public health organizations."

Both chains are implementing extra health measures to keep theaters as germ-free as possible, but this weekend is expected to be a disappointing one in terms of box office revenue.

F9, Mulan, and A Quiet Place: Part 2 are among the upcoming films which have been delayed, and Black Widow soon following suit feels like an inevitability at this point unless things drastically change and coronavirus disappears over the next six weeks. Unfortunately, that seems unlikely.

Better safe than sorry at this point. Just move every release to its congruent next film. So Wido take Eternals spot. Eternals tales whatever spot next in 2021 etc. Also give other films extra time to work on if necessary.

Disney and WB should stop their P&A spending and just delay these films already, because at this point they'll keep blowing money on advertising and then just be forced to delay it like a week from release

Yup time to delay Widow. Push it to like July.

@BlackBeltJones -
Time to push Wonder Woman (again) to August or the holidays.

@Battabing - honestly they should’ve just released it last November

tmp3 - 3/13/2020, 3:23 PM
@Battabing - Lets hope Wonder Woman doesn't push Dune. WB would be idiots to do that.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 3/13/2020, 3:24 PM
@Battabing - yea and WW would do fine in either spot too. I thought they could’ve gotten away with releasing it during the holidays last year

@BlackBeltJones - Patty Jenkins asked WB to delay it from November to June, lmfao

@tmp3 - If WW84 gets delayed, Dune is moving to 2021 because Diana is taking that spot.
tmp3
tmp3 - 3/13/2020, 3:31 PM
@Battabing - Just push Wonder Woman to September. Dune is meant to be WB's big Oscar player, and they can't campaign it if it's out in early 2021. Push WW84 to Q1 2021 if anything tbh
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 3/13/2020, 3:39 PM
@tmp3 - Then just pull a Fast 9 and delay Dune an entire year, problem solved!

@LongMayHeReign - Lame

@LongMayHeReign - except one is a shit franchise and the other is poised to sweep the Oscars, hell naw

@tmp3 - yikes

tmp3 - 3/13/2020, 3:58 PM
@bobevanz - Dune could be the new Lord of the Rings...
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 3/13/2020, 4:06 PM
@bobevanz - Yea but if it means giving that spot WW84 then it makes more sense, because no matter what you guys may think WB cares WAYYYY more about a huge box office return than they do winning Oscars.
tmp3
tmp3 - 3/13/2020, 4:13 PM
@LongMayHeReign - Dune will probably out-gross WW84 too

@tmp3 - I thought you were being serious for a second...

tmp3 - 3/13/2020, 4:18 PM
@GoldGuy - Dune could be huge. Blade Runner 2049 flopped, but that was because of Blade Runner as an IP not because of Denis Villeneuve
GoldGuy
GoldGuy - 3/13/2020, 4:21 PM
@tmp3 - Wait, you were serious?
I dunno, maybe Dune could play like a low level Star Wars (think The Last Jedi), but it's hard to picture. Hardcore sci-fi just doesn't do great anymore...unless you're directed by Nolan.
Battabing

@tmp3 -
Doubt it. It's as niche as Bladerunner.

@BlackBeltJones -
She'd basically be taking Aquaman's spot from 2018.

@Battabing - Keep telling yourself that, DC fanatic.
JDL

@tmp3 - Dude the only thing you open in September are "art" films and horror. The lost box office would be at least $200M.

On Dune vs. WW84. They badly need the latter to prop up the franchise after BoP flopped so I respectfully disagree.
tmp3
tmp3 - 3/13/2020, 7:24 PM
@JDL - Dune has way more potential as a franchise than Wonder Woman does. There's a big budget show set in the Dune universe in development at HBO Max, also directed by Denis Villeneuve.
