We know that a Booster Gold Max series is in the very early staged of development, but a recent rumor claimed that the project might be quite a bit further along than we realized.
According to the report, filming is scheduled for July, and the lead role has been cast - though there was no mention of which actor supposedly landed the part. Considering it's pretty much been radio silence on the show since it was first announced, this update seemed a little shaky, and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has now debunked the rumor.
The Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad director was asked if "the rumor that Booster Gold will be recorded on July 8th true? Will it be the next big DCU series after Peacemaker Season 2 or will it be Amanda Waller's series" on his recent Ma and Pa Kent post, and responded: "Although we’re still working on Booster Gold, production isn’t imminent and that story/posting is completely false."
Another rumor claimed that Jody Hill was being looked at to direct. Gunn didn't address this, but has previously stated that "most" of the DCU-based shows in the pipeline have set their creative teams.
Back in 2022, Gunn asked his social media followers which character that has yet to appear in the DCU they'd most like to see on screen, and Booster won by some margin.
"Interestingly, Booster was the MOST requested character when I asked people on Mastodon what character they'd most like to see on screen," Tweeted Gunn. "I'm not creating stories by public vote, but I found it fascinating nevertheless"
A Booster Gold feature from director Greg Berlanti and writer Zack Stenz was in development before falling off the radar back in 2019.
As for who fans would most like to see play the time-travelling hero, Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt seems to be a popular choice. The actor was asked about the possibility of suiting up as Booster in the DCU during a recent interview, and while he denied having any discussions about the role, he did add: "If James thought I was right for it, then you know that would I would have to consider it."
Booster Gold and Skeets appeared in the Smallville episode "Booster", portrayed by Eric Martsolf and voiced by Ross Douglas, respectively. Scrubs alum Donald Faison also played another take on the character in the series finale of Legends of Tomorrow.
