CAPTAIN AMERICA 4 Will Explore What It Means For Sam Wilson To Wield The Shield Without Being A Super Soldier

Producer Nate Moore has shed some light on what fans can expect from Captain America 4, teasing that a big part of the movie will be stacking the odds against the very human Sam Wilson. Check it out...

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier spent five episodes exploring Sam Wilson's decision to wield the shield, but it wasn't until the finale that we saw him become Captain America. Shortly after that episode aired, it was revealed that Marvel Studios is moving forward with a Captain America 4, though little to nothing has been revealed about what we can expect from the movie.

Sam promises to be a very different Cap to Steve Rogers, especially as he doesn't have the Super Soldier Serum coursing through his veins. He's just a regular guy (with a pair of wings), and it sounds like the plan is to explore this by upping the ante and stacking the odds against the hero.

"I think, he's not Steve Rogers and I think that's a good thing. Because to me, this new Cap is Rocky," producer Nate Moore tells ComicBook.com"He's going to be the underdog in any situation. He's not a super soldier. He's not a hundred years old. He doesn't have the Avengers. What happens with this guy who announces publicly kind of, without the support, 'I'm new Captain America.' What happens next? I think is fascinating because he's a guy. He's a guy with wings and a shield, but he is a guy."

"So, we're going to put him through the wringer and make him earn it, and see what happens when he is outweighed, outclassed, out-everything," he teases. "What makes somebody Captain America? I'm going to argue it's not being a super soldier. And I think we're going to prove that with Mackie and Sam Wilson."

It remains to be seen what those odds are, but something tells us Cap will have to face more than just Power Broker. Karli Morgenthau, a.k.a. Flag Smasher, was a pretty underwhelming villain in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, so we're hoping for someone a little more interesting and formidable.

Captain America 4 has yet to receive a release date from Marvel Studios.

What does it mean to be captain america without being a super soldier...but still being able to lift a truck.

@Origame - Correct.

When he says it like that, it does sound pretty boss.

But what i saw in action during FaTWS was pretty meh. So they have some ground to cover if Cap 4 is going to deliver.

@TheManWithoutFear - It seems to me they already covered this in FATWS... he did face off against super soldiers even though he was not one... do we want that dragged out for 2+ hrs? Hopefully they have far more planned for the story twists, turns and action than that.

Thought it was just a rumoured project before this, but with Moore talking about it I guess it's offical.

Still would've prefered a second season to FATWS (or I guess CAATWS), because the more time to spent with these characters the better. I know I'm in the minority, but FATWS is my favorite MCU show so far.

I’m also in the minority.

@Waddles - @bkmeijer I think feige should start sitting down and seeing what can be a movie and what would serve better as a TV show. I mean just looking at what we had, there's a lot that could've been improved with that format.

Black widow: a lot of missing development that could've been expanded on, and the lower budget would've meant they would think twice about the red room destruction scene, something most people complained about.

Shang chi: I'd say this worked fine as a film. Wouldn't say it would suffer as a show but also not complex enough that a movie didn't work fine enough.

Eternals: I have no idea why this story spanning centuries with 10 superheroes to develop was even considered for a movie. Like come on. This was begging to be a show.

@Origame - I still like to believe they gave Black Widow the movie and Hawkeye the show, because the story they had planned with Black Widow worked better as a prequel. As thus her story was complete by Endgame and it made more sense for her to sacrifice herself than Hawkeye.

Still, I agree they should've made that into a show too. I get that after her Endgame sacrifice she deserved a solo outing on the big screen too, but they should've gone with a different story then.

As for Eternals, I haven't seen it yet. From what I can tell though, I think a show maybe would've dragged on for too long.

@bkmeijer - for black widow, it can still be a prequel with the same plot. Just as a show format instead.

As for the eternals, it's really packed with lore and ideas in that 2.5 hour runtime. A miniseries would've given them more breathing room to explore their ideas. Like maybe a full episode devoted to thena and her deteriorating condition.
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 11/11/2021, 12:49 PM
@bkmeijer - I'm with you. I didn't much care for Loki. I liked WandaVision, but I think it gets a little more credit than it deserves. So much of it is just stylistic intrigue without real meat to what the characters are experiencing. It was fun dissect what everything meant, but when I look back on it the core story wasn't that strong. There's so much time of Wanda and Vision not being aware enough to be emotionally processing anything and of everyone on the outside (Woo, Darcy, Monica) just working the problem without any emotional connection to it.

Falcon and the Winter Soldier lacks the novelty and originality of WandaVision in its presentation and structure, but overall I believe there was more meat there. In the first episode alone, we got more (and deeper) character exploration than we did in the first 3 of WandaVision. I also feel the supporting cast is use much more meaningfully in their perspectives, what they represent to the lead characters, and the conflicts they introduce to the story.

@BIGBMH - for me it mainly came down to FATWS being the show for me that had each episode actually be about something. The other shows also had certain goals and such, but yeah FATWS had more meat to it indeed
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 11/11/2021, 1:59 PM
@Origame - true. Think they felt Black Widow needed to be on the big screen.

From what I've read (your comment included), Eternals does sound like it could've used more time. A show could be a good starting point, but then again I don't Marvel do shows abiut characters that haven't been introduced on the big screen first

Man they gotta make Falcon a little more badass cause boy he just feels so weak anytime I see him fight 😂 I thought Baltroc was gonna kill him, a guy Steve Rogers knocked out in under a minute. I kinda wanted Wilson to get the super serum but it could be interesting to make it more human and grounded to where Wilson doesn’t believe he needs it to be a hero which is actually what we saw in the show so could be explored more. Gonna be real tough when he’s fighting an Avengers level threat 😂 but hey Black Widow and Hawkeye were ok with it.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 11/11/2021, 8:22 AM
@JohnCastillo - I think that makes it interesting to watch for a change. With Steve we knew he'd kick a guy 50 feet into the air without effort, but with Sam there is a real change he gets his butt kicked. Kinda ups the stakes

@Spagett -

When I first saw it, I didn’t question the physics at all.

Now I’m picturing his arms first popping out of their shoulder sockets before Sam is pancaked between the falling mass of the truck and the opposing upward thrust of his jetpack.

bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 11/11/2021, 8:24 AM
@Spagett - yeah that was weird. Made more sense if his jetpack was directly supporting the vehicle

GhostDog

They should put him in a MIDNIGHT RUN sort of situation. He and Sam. You keep the Buddy Cop formula with them being together but I also think it would be somewhat of a test to push what he can do in a cross country chase situation. He’s being hunted by individuals whether superpowers or not that will really push him as Cap

Sam’a gotta transport some important MCU supporting character who has important information A but doesn’t trust the authorities. The new Cap steps up to the plate. Could be a fun basis to bake some interesting themes into. I would tie Isaiah into it somehow.

Isn't that basically what his arc was in FATWS? With the added point of what it means to be a black captain America?

Honestly I'm not too excited for this, FATWS was fine. I just felt meh throughout the whole thing and probably wouldn't have finished it if it weren't MCU.
BritishMonkey

Erskine answered that in the first film. What makes Captain America is being a good man. Sam already is so really it's just testing his limits now.

@BritishMonkey - it’s not about the idealism but the practicality of it all. Like when Hawkeye was fighting killer robots in Av2

Didnt TFATWS basically cover this arc?
whatevtrev
whatevtrev - 11/11/2021, 7:51 AM
@whatevtrev - and ended up being the worst entry in Phase 4 yet. (I haven’t seen Eternals yet, so we’ll see how it compares, but I struggle to see how it could be any worse)

I would have been excited if not for that cringe ass speech in that lame FATWS finale. Now I care about his version of Cap as little as I cared about John Walker's version.

It's MCU. Didn't you see Black Widow and Hawkeye go toe to toe with Alien forces in first Avengers movie?

Who cares if he's gonna be juiced up with some super hero pee or not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
