Sebastian Stan Is Ready To Become The Next 'Captain America' After CIVIL WAR

Recently, Sebastian Stan didn't sound too enthused about taking over as Captain America, but his tune now appears to have changed! You can find details on that after the jump along with insight from the actor on Bucky's past and how that's informed his performance...

Following the death of Steve Rogers, Bucky stepped forward to become the next Captain America, joining the anti-registration New Avengers and wielding the shield until his apparent death in the pages of Fear Itself (which ended his tenure with more of a whimper than a bang). Now, we've heard that Anthony Mackie isn't keen on taking over from Chris Evans, but when Sebastian Stan was asked who should be the next Cap at the Salt Lake City Comic Con, he replied (via The Salt Lake Tribune), "Myself." The actor then went on expand on that by adding, "I'll say this: They sure like to dangle a cheese in front of my nose a lot. They're like 'Oh yeah, that's where you pick up the shield,' and I'm like, 'Yeah, I've heard that one before. There it is again.' But I don't know. If I could say one thing, if anyone can have anything to do with it, to make it happen, is you."

There's definitely a demand there for Bucky to become Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but if it is going to happen, it probably won't be after Captain America: Civil War. It would also be bittersweet given how great Chris Evans is as Steve Rogers, but Stan sounds content to continue on as The Winter Soldier given how fascinated he seems with the character's backstory. "And everything about his childhood was extremely inspiring," Stan said. "I didn't know that he had a sister who ends up going into an orphanage and later ends up dying of Alzheimer's. The fact that this whole story with his father, all those things were very real for me and very helpful in terms of pulling a person together." This apparently helped the actor appreciate, "the fact that this is why he ends up being used by HYDRA and the Russians and so on, because he comes from a really troubled past." Would you like to see Bucky become Captain America in the MCU?

I think Chris Evans is superb as Steve Rogers but would be interesting if he gave up the Mantle of Captain America in a sequel.
Would prefer Bucky taking over as Captain America as think Sam is awesome and prefer him being Falcon.

I don't want him to become Cap because TWS costume looks so much cooler than the Cap suits.

The only Cap for me lol. I know, eventually, Evans will have to leave the role, but I'm gonna enjoy his portrayal as long as I can.

Why is there such a demand for Rogers to die?!

It would be a real shame if Steve was killed in Civil War. I really think we need to see Cap lead our forces against Thanos.

They rush Cap's storyline so much it's frustrating. There are dozens of excellent storylines over the years that we'll never see.

I guess they did the same thing with Iron Man, but I didn't care as much because I'm not a fan.

I wouldn't mind seeing Cap incapacitated and Bucky having to stand in temporarily. Sort of a variation of the comic story line. Ultimately, I would like to see more of the Winter Soldier in the Marvel movie universe. He's a very interesting character.

Here be my thoughts...

I would love it if Cap died at the end of Civil War and Bucky stepped in to save the day wielding the shield and taking Steve's spot on the Avengers roster. Tony then slinks away into a bottle blaming himself for all the shit he's caused...

Meanwhile in Thorville, Ragnarok brings about the complete implosion of all things Thor and in a moment of true sacrifice, Thor ends all of Asgard to save the remaining realms.

And, yes, Hulk would be in space (or the Savage Land).

What would all this do? It would leave a greatly weakened world for Thanos to take advantage of and by the end of Infinity I we see the Earth conquered with a pan out into space revealing the Guardians zipping around the Moon, making their arrival.

Infinity II would be about fighting back, featuring a true comic book moment of reset glory. The gauntlet taken away from Thanos, the Witch using her skills in a "no more mutants way," but this time in an "Avengers assemble" sort of way that brings the fallen back to life! Quicksilver flies past making an immediate save, smiring about not seeing things coming. Cap asks if he can borrow the shield for a few minutes to fight some baddies. A lightning bolt knocks Thanos on his ass and Hulk interrupts the titans pissed off response with a Lokiesque repeated ground slap. Cap looks like he's going to take a shot in the back, but Tony flies by to take the hit. Along with this, we want Easter eggs galore! Fill the background with everything you got. Ghost Rider, Blade, Strange...the whole Midnight Sons shebang! Daredevil, Spiderman, Sinister Six (yes, let's see some villains fighting for the sake of the Earth too)! Throw in glimpses of heroes we haven't seen before and leave us champing at the bit for more!

Give us a kick ass third act to bring the mess to a clean end, leaving us with a whole cinematic universe of possibilities. No doors closed. Lots of stories to be told.

That's what I'm f'n talking about!!!

*And, yes, Marvel, I would humbly accept a position of employment with your company. ;)

Is this basically a soft confirmation that Steve will die at the end of Civil War?

Personally, i think the true Cap is Steve Rogers..period. anyone else taking over is just a substitute and I don't think we need that right now..far too early..all those characters are still too fresh and unexploited.. While Chris Evans still up to it i would stick with him. he has made a brilliant version of Cap and its still growing.

I still think they are gonna kill Steve and somehow bring him back later. It will be a real tragedy to see Steve get killed because no one really thinks it will happen and everyone is doubting it.

Why do people want Steve dead already?He's only been Cap for like 4 movies. Though @Windmillmaker's idea is a pretty freakin awesome and a nice change of pace.

@ckal

"didn't he just recently say he wouldn't want to become cap?"

And didn't Ridley Scott say he was done with Alien? People change their minds all the time–especially if, as i suspect, you dangle enough money in their faces.

@Windmillwacker

Sorry but with what Tony has gone through in the movies and what he has pulled himself out of through his own ingenuity I believe he is done with 'the bottle'.
You need a different solution for that.
