Over the past week, director Joe Johnston has let loose more information than any fan would have expected. The First Avenger: Captain America has yet to start production and we know more regarding it's storyline than Marvel's other superhero property Thor, which has already started filming.

Today, About.com's Rebecca Murray released a short interview where she tried prying a few more tidbits from Johnston:

Can I ask one Captain America question?

"You can ask all the Captain America questions you want, but I'm sworn to secrecy. I'm sworn to secrecy."

So you're not going to tell me who you cast?

"We haven't cast anyone."

You have to soon though, right?

"Yeah, soon, we will. I promise you we will. We got a new draft of the script last night and it's fantastic. Even I want to see this movie."

How did it change from the first one? What makes it better?

"Better, tighter, a little more action, more character stuff, a subplot that - I don't want to say anymore. But it is great."

And you are going after somebody that we don't really know?

"I don't know. I don't know. I'm not going to say. I'm sworn to secrecy."

So if I don't know anything about Captain America, I'm going to understand this film?

"Absolutely."

It's not going to be an R.

"No, PG-13, like all those Marvel movies."

Cool. I can't wait to see who they get for Cap. I don't really have a pick, and I'm open to unknowns, so I don't think I'll be disappointed with specifically who they get, as long as it's not Armie Hammer, McPartlin, or Murray, I'll be happy.

But It's gunna be interesting to see if they get a known or unknown to play Cap!

@Joe Mistfit - The Superman news was fantastic, but we don't know anything really. Nolan is involved but it doesn't mean he is directing it. I think the fact that we have Marvel movies being mass produced and with "A" list actors and directors and huge budgets is already the best news we could have. And for once it's not just a bunch of rumors, we are seeing these movies getting made and they are GREAT movies! Look at Iron-man and I. Hulk. I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that you are more of a DC guy than a Marvel guy Joe.

@mclovin, yeah i think DC is DESPERATE to create what marvel has going for and it will never work. Chris Nolan is good for realistic, who knows with superman tho. I know most of you will disagree, but even the early Christopher Reeves supes movies were bombs IMO. Nolas will work on his time and hes going to take too long to be effective on this.

Oh no R? :( - @Keven you just got me excited with does ideas, lol.

But seriously there is nothing but great news to this movie these days. Even though we did not get anything concrete from that interview, we now know that Joe is very happy about the script and that he sounds even more keen on directing the most epic CBM of all time, here is hoping that the casting of Cap won't ruin it.

hell keep it a secret, he should see if he can keep it a secret till the first trailer comes out, that'd make it more epic

@blank - I agree that they must be desperate to replicate the amount of money these movies are going to make! Superman returns was a failure because it lacked originality. There were too many "nods" and references to the original movie and while Routh did a decent job of emulating Reeves, he did not deliver what we wanted. Same with Spacey and his campy version of Lex. What Nolan did worked for Batman, but is not what all DC heroes need. I think the future of DC movies relies heavily on the success of GL. If that movie tanks, all we can hope for is a sequel to Batman. But you can kiss Flash and WW good bye.

like ive said in my other post for this film cast leonardo decaprio like marvel suggested before, and have captain america doing his flips, shield tossing, and super moves, and running.then unfrozen after battleing red skull in the past.

Joey Misfit- I see you're point but at least us
MARVEL fans get a great MOVIE every year
we'll see Green Lantern once every
3 years after they make this film,
we won't GL until 2014..CRAP, I think
IRON MAN was WAY better than TDK, and all
the MARVEL tie-ins are awesome! DC doesn't
have the GUTS to do what marvel is doing
with Iron Man, IM2, TIHulk, THOR and
Captain America..which leads up to
THE AVENGERS!!..DC will have Johna Hex,
then GL, then...????? there movies
are so scattered all over the place,
OHHH PRIEST..forgot that one.

I hate where this all is going

Captain America wears the suit so he perform like a trained seal and entertain the troops rather than see combat? If that is what happens then it's not going to be a very fun re-imagining of him

@Kes: I think Joe is the kinda guy who prefers movies that have heart or make you think or something. He likes movies that aren't just pretty faces, back-flips, and explosions which is what you would imagine a typical Captain America movie to be. He likes movies that draw you in and make you really care about the characters. I think that's what he means when he says "even I wanna see this movie." It sounds to me like this is an action movie with heart. Know what I'm sayn?

Nemeres - 2/10/2010, 6:05 PM
Fartman, you obviously kid. You could say that about Superman, Batman, even Spidey, but Cap is the most easily castable guy out there. An All-American guy with blue eyes, square jaw, blond hair and straight nose. You could find a worthy-looking Cap in the any soap opera. Their goal, I expect, is to find someone with good acting chops.

Its a shame that the Wolfman movie got poor reviews. That was his one chance to prove to us that he is capable to directing the Captain America film. OH well....

Well... @Nemeres

I just don't like any of the popular choices now. Of course they all are like that....

Its just weird since we always see Cap with his mask on. Cap with a face (i.e. Chris Pine) would just remind me of something else than
Captain America.
