More From Chris Evans On Playing Captain America!

Chris Evans had more to say concerning Captain America in this recent interview...

Chris Evans talked with Screenrush while promoting The Losers recently and had plenty to say concerning Captain America.

Fantastic Four, this one, Captain America next, is there a different approach every time for you?

"I don't think just because something is rooted in a comic book, doesn't make it any different from a movie that would be an original piece or rooted in a novel. It's just a story and as an actor you gotta find truth and tell the story to the best of your ability. You collaborate the same way with the creative people involved. For me it's a very similar process. The only difference is that you have kind of a source to kind of turn back to, to get inspiration from. Outside of that, it's all pretty similar as far as the process is concerned."

What attracted you to that new comic book character they are going to do next, Captain America and what do see in him?

"I think Marvel is doing really good stuff right now. They've branched off, they've kind of taken control of their material. I think they're really making great movies. Kevin Fiege over there is just a guy that I completely trust, he's so smart. Anything that he's behind, it's exciting."

"Steve Rogers is a fun character. He's just this very noble, honest guy, he's a good man. Even if he wasn't a superhero I think he would still be an interesting story about a guy who wants to do the right thing and gets kind of saddled with a lot of responsibility and this great gift. So it was just a great story regardless of the comic book background."

Yeah Hawks! Fist blocker!!! LOL

The more I read about Evans playing Cap, the easier I feel about it. He seems to have a good understanding of the character. "He's just this very noble, honest guy, he's a good man. Even if he wasn't a superhero I think he would still be an interesting story about a guy who wants to do the right thing and gets kind of saddled with a lot of responsibility and this great gift." That pretty well sums up Steve Rogers.

And Evans has a respect for the source material. Some people are pretty quick to write off comics as a "kiddie" or un-serious (non-serious?) source. He equates them with any other form of written media. I'm getting pretty stoked for this one too. I hope it lives up to the hype.

I really like the way he looks at it. A lot of people just lump comic book movies together like they're all the same thing. Fantastic Four was a superhero ensemble. Losers is a shoot 'em up. Captain America is a period piece set in the Marvel universe (it has superhero elements but Steve doesn't have powers) When you think about it, they're all very different.

Awesome find HAWKS!

It's easy to tell from the way Evans talks that although he may not be the world's biggest comic book fan, he cares about doing the characters he plays justice! Man, I hope that playing Captain America really propels him into the big time because although he's already pretty damned successful, it would be great to see the same thing happen for him as it has with Christian Bale for example since Batman Begins! :)

Basically he's interested becoz this will be his biggest movie yet and he's the lead, this movie will sky rocket his career!

Wow I was pissed off the first time he was casted mainly for him being Torch already. But this interview just makes me proud to see him as Cap. I actually am happy he is Cap because this guy gets it. He will be great as Cap judging by his opinion of Cap and the comics. He takes it seriously like I do and I respect him for that. Plus he looks great now, startin to look like Steve a bit more.

Thanks guys.:)

Josh: I think Evans already has more notoriety at this point in his career than Bale did before he did Batman Begins. If Evans nails the part of Rogers I think he will skyrocket to stardom.

He really impressed me in Sunshine and London. I wouldn't have even watched or payed attention to London but I remembered Tyler talking about it on here.

Off topic: I was on comicvine.com and i found this guy who all he did was complain about Chris evans as Cap and even wished that Chris would get into a car crash and die. Geez the Captain America movie really does turn people insane. I just hate it when people judge an actor's performance before filming has even begun and then wish that actor would die because that person can't stand the fact that the actor he wanted wasn't chosen. It's sad actually. People can just be soo heartless.

Chris is a good choice for Cap. Can't wait for the movie.

I don't think that he will be bad as Cap, but I will never be able to the fact that he was in Fantastic Four out of my mind. He was one of the few bright spots of those movies, and therefore already has a place in the Marvel universe, even if it wasn't put out by Marvel.

What's next, Tobey Maguire as Doctor Strange? Ben Aflack as The Sentry? Thomas Jane as Hawkeye?

Not a big fan of the casting based on this alone. Hopefully they do a good job, but I think Marvel dropped the ball on this one.
Ryden
Ryden - 5/7/2010, 1:33 AM
@cbluem- It's a different Universe and it really doesn't matter, I mean in all honest Tobey Maguire and Ben Affleck etc can all have roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if they wish, there's nothing stopping them. It's not as if they'll run into themselves because if they are rebooted with Marvel then there will be different actors.

@ranger, theres not a signle interview he's done where he isnt seemingly embarrassed to be tied to all of these CBM roles. He keeps talking about how these movies would be good if they werent based on super heroes and crap, hes just afraid of being type cast into these roles and its obvious. We're not reading different articles, im just reading it for what it is and the rest of you far-too-hopefulls are eating up anything the guy says. Im not against hi for the role, not as an actor, but as a person hes just complained and downplayed the significance of him as a CB hero aswell as his other CBMs.

@ blank

he doesn't sound ashamed at all. like someone else said, i REALLY don't understand what interviews you're reading, because the things you're getting from this guy's interviews are just NOT things he's saying.

you have to remember that he's been in 2 CBM's already. this will be his 3rd. i think its safe to say that he's not ashamed of doing CBM's.

he admitted that he wasn't a comic fan, and that he didn't know much about Cap, but by saying that Cap would be fun to play even if he wasn't a super hero, is just a way of saying that he's into the character, and he's excited to play him. i don't understand how you're coming to the conclusions you keep coming to. if you don't like him as Cap, just say it, but stop coming up with unfounded reasons, and putting words into the guy's mouth.
BigbyBadWolf
BigbyBadWolf - 5/7/2010, 6:09 AM
@Blank - I have to admit, I'm just as confused as everyone else. I don't see where he is trying to distance himself from comic book material. He says, "I don't think just because something is rooted in a comic book, doesn't make it any different from a movie that would be an original piece or rooted in a novel. It's just a story and as an actor you gotta find truth and tell the story to the best of your ability." He clearly acknowledges that it is based on a comic book, but then goes on to say that it doesn't matter because it is all about story, not the medium it is put forth in. I know many actors will kind of praise the source material for whatever they are working on to endear themselves to the fans and the audience. Sometimes, I think they are contractually obligated to do so. But this isn't Evans first CBM. It's not even his third! If he wanted to distance himself from CBM's, he should turn down the roles. I think he seems to be pretty content with it.
