Cleveland, Ohio. Known for a burning river and terrible luck with its sports teams. A new thing Cleveland is becoming known for is its popularity in Hollywood with superhero movies.
Back in 2006,
Spider-Man 3 filmed the bank truck scene with Spidey and Sandman along Euclid Ave. In 2011,
The Avengers were in town filming actions scenes for the Battle of New York on East 9th and also filmed the Germany scene in Public Square.
Next up is
Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which comes to Cleveland for four weeks and has over a dozen location shoots planned. Originally planned to start filming today on Rockwell Ave. and on East 6th, cameras will begin rolling on Sunday May 19 instead.
Many roads will be closed for a day or two here and there, but there is no bigger closure than the western part of the Shoreway. The 3.5 miles of highway closure has been confirmed by the city government to be filming a gigantic action sequence with cars. Also, it has been confirmed by the city that the reason the closure of the Shoreway is so lengthy is due to the clean up costs. If the highway were to be closed for part of each day and then cleaned up so commuters can use it, the costs would've been ridiculous. Hence the reasoning behind the lengthy closure.
Check out the updated road closure list and maps as provided by the Greater Cleveland Film Commission below.
And don't forget that The Daily SuperHero will be spying on many of the Cleveland location shoots for Cap 2. Stay tuned for location reports, photos and perhaps some video too!
