Hayley Atwell Promises ‘Peggy Carter’ Action In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

While there's talk of Peggy Carter getting her own action-packed short film at Comic-Con, actress Hayley Atwell reveals that she'll certainly have more action in Captain America: The Winter Soldier!

As Marvel officials acknowledged during last night's Iron Man 3 premiere, an action-packed short film surrounding Captain America's main squeeze Peggy Carter, played by actress Hayley Atwell, will apparently debut at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Doting on that in a recent interview with Metro, Atwell also discussed reprising the character in the upcoming sequel to The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She was said to feature in only one flashback scene, but…

“‘I’ve been working with some stunt coordinators – I get three separate fight scenes,’” she says. “‘The training has been really tough because not only are you learning the moves, you’re also learning the power of the punch so it doesn’t look like you have spaghetti arms. On my first day, they said: “It’s going really well but you don’t have to add your own sound effects…”’

“I’m going to [comic book convention] Comic Con in July,’”
she says. “‘I’ve never been before, so I said to the film’s producer: “What is it, like 3,000 people?” He said: “No, try 300,000 people.” They get quite obsessive. When we were filming the first one, Chris Evans went over to do a: “Hi, I’m the next Captain America, nice to meet you” thing and two fans who were dressed up ended up fighting over his seat. One of them stabbed the other with a really sharp pencil.’”

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times reported that Captain America: The Winter Soldier filming will last a total 80 days, with half of the shoot taking place in L.A before moving to Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC. Quoting the film’s supervising location manager, “We’re shooting all over Southern California, from the beaches to the mountains.” Filming has already occurred recently in L.A.’s St. Vincent Medical Center, “the basement of the Sears, Roebuck & Co. building on Olympic Boulevard and the Westfield Topanga Shopping Mall in Canoga Park.” There are also noteworthy rumors The Winter Soldier will explore more of vibranium, the unique metal Cap’s shield’s made of.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” picks up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C. Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández with Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by the team of Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch, production designer Peter Wenham, editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release on April 4, 2014. In addition to “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

let someone explain it to me, please.

1. How da hell her character is still alive ?
2. Is she playing Older Peggy ?
3. Is Older Peggy getting some action ?
Or is it "never got old Peggy" ?

I'm so confused right now.

When will they cast the REAL villain in Cap 2?!
I'm guessing its either Zemo or Strucker but if Zola turns out to be it I hope they make him much more badass!

I think they're all just flashbacks and she's using the term "stunts" loosely.

Common sense should tell one that she will be in flashback scenes. ;-)

I believe that Zemo or Strucker will appear in this movie. Would not be surprised if they are holding back on this bit of casting. How about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Baron Zemo?

Why would Falcon's wing tech come from Wakanda??? That is the stupidiest thing I've heard in a while.

So there will be a flashback to WWII in between the montage scenes if TFA. Hence why the writer left that open in the first place! So we'll get to see Cap's costume from the first film.

I'm sure there's a new starts and stripe suit too based on the concept art plus the Agent Rogers suit.

So Marvel is going to include a reference to BP or Wakanda just to please a bunch of fanboys? It's clear they're going Ultimate Falcon in this film so I highly doubt we see any reference to Wakanda. It would only create more questions for the general audience.

probably flashbacks, I hope this means that the movie will definitely be split between flashbacks and present day action, I want some WW2 Zemo and present day Zemo

although looks like no Zemo, even though no one in the movie so far looks strong enough to be the main villain

Like Mackey knows dick about the Falcon. Dude never even heard of him before this part came up.

@Psycho...I know they talked about vibranium in TFA but they made no reference to Wakanda. If they were going to discuss BP or Wakanda that would've been the best chance in Phase 1. They didn't for a reason. Regular movie-going non-fanboys don't know shit about BP or Wakanda. Referencing that would've only confused folks.

Do I need to talk about the title?

Gmoney84
Gmoney84 - 4/25/2013, 11:17 AM
@Albert...Not at all. That's not what I'm saying. Look back at when Renner first started talking about Hawkeye and he referred to him as "Clive". I'm just saying when these actors are asked specific questions about these characters they know little or nothing about them and its difficult to validate what they are saying.

@Batz...I'd agree with that. And I honestly think an amalgam approach to the character is the best route. A purely 616 or Ultimates portrayal would be sub-par IMO.
Gmoney84
Gmoney84 - 4/25/2013, 11:21 AM
@Albert...Well, Howard Stark did say it's the rarest metal on Earth...but I think throwing a line in about a fictional nation in Africa would've been a little confusing, yes.

Obviously its flashbacks, but does this mean we also have another villain? A flashback villain?
rosco71
rosco71 - 4/25/2013, 11:30 AM
She's alive and well in modern day and very old, there's a action packed flash back for Peggy, i hope Steve has a slow dance with the older Peggy at the end!
Gmoney84
Gmoney84 - 4/25/2013, 11:38 AM
@Albert...While I agree completely, what you're saying has nothing to do with what Batz and I were discussing. We're not talking about the acting ability of Mackey or any other actor. We were discussing an actors knowledge of a character as a source of reference for that particular character.
