UPDATE: Anthony Mackie On His “Integral” Role In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Promoting Michael Bay's Pain and Gain actioner, Anthony Mackie recently spoke with Black Film about his role in the currently-filming Marvel sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
When asked how big of a role does Sam Wilson AKA The Falcon have, Mackie reassured, “I’m happy to say that I’m in a good deal of the movie and I play an integral part with Captain America taking down the winter soldier. It’s great. They started the shoot 2 1/2 weeks ago and once I finished doing press for ‘Pain & Gain,’ I go in and join them. I’ve been doing combat training and fitness training just to get prepared. It’s going to be something and I’m excited for it.”

Acknowledging concept art revealed earlier this month via the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One Collector's set, Mackie went on the discuss his Falcon costume. “They just released pictures of the costume last week. It’s more of a military style tactical costume. He’s more along the lines of Captain America as far as superhero as opposed to a true superhero.”

After being quizzed how much he knew of The Falcon prior to being cast, Anthony Mackie declared, “I had never heard of the Falcon. I knew nothing about him. Once they sent me the comic book and told me everything they wanted me to do, I read up some and looked up his story. I’m really excited. He’s a cool character and we need that. We that (black) superhero that looks like them.”

UPDATE: Speaking with Collider, Anthony Mackie revealed that he'll take part in filming that occurs in Manhattan Beach and Cleveland. Now slimming down for role, after bulking up for Pain and Gain, Mackie says, “Well, it’s more so a cardio thing now. I mean, you know, if you’re a super hero… I didn’t want to get too bulky. You know there’s a lot of limitations to how big I was for Pain and Gain, whereas with this I just want to be fit, you know. I just want to be in shape to where I can go in and do all the stunts and all the things I feel like I would need to do to bring this character to life. So, it all depends. I met with the studio very early on and I told them I was going to throw on some weight and get bigger and they said, “No, no, no, no don’t do that. Stay a smaller weight and we’ll figure out something character-wise.” So, you know, that’s kind of what it turned into.”

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” picks up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C. Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández with Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by the team of Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch, production designer Peter Wenham, editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release on April 4, 2014. In addition to “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

I'm really curious in how they're gonna explain Falcon in this movie. Why does they need a guy with mechanical wings? Where did they come from? Why no one else has them?
Why only Sam? Why Sam?

I have complete faith that they're gonna pull it off, I'm just curious about HOW they're gonna pull it off.

@TheManFromMars Yup I agree I'm so curious as to how. I know Marvel knows what they're doing with their properties so they will without a doubt pull it off.

The wings will probably be explain as a Shield or (enter Marvel tech company)prototype. Some type of special forces recon suit.

I hope the costume is red and still military/tactical. He seems like a good fit for the part.

This is my most anticipated and yet most concerned of the Phase 2 films before Avengers 2. I loved Ed Brubaker's run on Captain America and Cap is my favorite Avenger other than Black Panther.

Other than my Falcon Mego figure being one of my favorites as a kid, I really don't know much about the Falcon. I hope they incorporate some of the red into his suit. Don't go leather X-Men on us!

"I'm just happy to have movies about superheroes!"
"I can't believe how much fan-boys whine about unimportant minutia!"

Man! Is it Just too much to ask that we throw some red into the costume colors for Falcon?!?

"I love the realistic, military style they've given to Agent Wilson!"
"Now everyone calm down. After all, it's just a movie. Shheeeesh."

F that! Where's Redwing?

I hope they don't have Falcon talking to birds. That is definitely one power that is not needed. Have him being a top level agent like Nat and Clint and his thing is aviation.

Falcon sucks. Bringing him into MCU = stupid, why use Falcon? a lame joke instead of Black Panther, Ant-Man, Ms. Marvel, Daredevil, The Punisher? I have to laugh. Falcon is lame.

http://www.bestmovie.it/news/abbiamo-visto-in-anteprima-assoluta-iron-man-3-ecco-la-nostra-recensione-esclusiva/215737/

Here is a translation from Italian to English of the first review for IRON MAN 3

In the world of the cinema, where every surprise is dead, suffocated by spoilers, teaser, trailer and advances of any kind, it's always nice to enter in the room and come out with certain expectations, as they say, disheveled and eyes shiny, overwhelmed by something not only amazing, but also, above all, unexpected. We now things clear: we are not in poetry on anything, but speaking more or less explicitly Iron Man 3, nor the "deep throats" Kevin Feige and Shane Black, nor the millions of featurette, teaser trailer, armor secret and company were able to prepare fully to the performance of this cinecomic, two and a quarter hours with a wealth of events and spectacular sequences most of which have not even imagined would be included in the film.

All right, we take breath and recover a bit of dignity, though it is not easy (after all we have been torn from the love of our loved ones on Easter morning to preview secret.) Iron Man 3 could be the Marvel cinecomic spectacular never released - yes, even more than The Avengers: SPOILER if you do not want go to the next sentence, otherwise just know that, without prejudice to the spectacle that is the battle of New York Film Joss Whedon, Thor, Captain America and Hulk flew into deep space to the final battle with the villain of the moment. That, and this is another spoiler, but understand that is otherwise difficult to talk about the film, it is not (only) the much-vaunted Mandarin - and most will not say, as we will not say anything about the fate of Pepper Potts (then you will know if we what happens to half the film you surprised or not) or armature Mark I. So, forget the ideas that you have made so far: Iron Man 3 is much more.

Of course, compared to the two predecessors light-hearted, it is a serious film, sometimes dead serious: however far from grim realism of cinecomic nolaniani, is quite reflective and introspective, with unexpected echoes noir reminiscent of Dark City by Alex Proyas. Forget the jokes lightning and glamor that surrounds the life of Tony Stark: Shane Black has wisely packaged all the funniest scenes of the movie in the trailers that have been circulating in recent months, and left Robert Downey Jr. Free to play a character haunted and introspective , Iron Man does not talk much, and it's a novelty, and smiles even less. The Unbearable Lightness of the franchise, therefore, falls on the shoulders of all newcomer Don Cheadle, whose charisma takes over an hour to unfold, but once blossomed, does impose the full weight of the film on the actor Crash; which is an unlikely shoulder (perhaps the weakest point of the film) Gwyneth Paltrow, whose physique du role is far from that of the superhero and villain counterbalanced by the sublime philosopher interpreted by Ben Kingsley. Iron Man 3 becomes a film of actors even before the superhero, Iron Patriot and the discussions between the Mandarin and the power of the media and the relationship between the network and Occupy Wall Street also obscure attempts to Christopher Nolan to give political depth to his Batman.

If you are confused, especially if it seems that he is reading a review of another movie, do not worry: it happened to us, we entered the dining believe you already know everything about Iron Man 3 and we have instead found that Shane Black is a scoundrel and a marketing genius. Surely someone will not like the elephantine slowness of the film, shot in long dialogues dark interior and the relative lack of action scenes memorable - for the final half hour is enough to fill five movies "normal." All others, rediscover a franchise in great shape, thanks to the talent capable of a phenomenal director to reinvent and rewrite the geography of modern cinema entertainment.

UPDATE: The review was a FISH IN APRIL , in case there is doubt come!

Read the story and watch the trailer

I like
The dark slowness with which Iron Man 3 comes forward inexorably towards a catastrophic conclusion and impressive. Proof of actor Don Cheadle, which should be dedicated to a spin-off.

I do not like
Not everyone will appreciate the route taken by the franchise, and may even feel betrayed by a film that has little to do with the campaign or anything.

Recommended for those who
Not yet convinced, despite Nolan, a cinecomic can say something profound.

Rating: 5/5

I wonder if the studio worried that he could get bigger than Evans. It probably wouldn't look good if Evans was still in Avengers shape and Mackie was ripped and looking like a hero.

I can't stand people like that. They're like, "Man, it is so hard to gain weight, I am so tired of being thin and pretty in shape." Hard to GAIN weight? Now that is a problem I would like to have...

I had the absolute honor in meeting Anthony Mackie on a movie set and had a chance to talk with him about Cap 2. He didn't spoil anything to me. We only talked about shooting dates and how he approaches the role. After talking with him for a while he proved worthy of playing Falcon to me. He's seemed very passionate about the role and I applaud him for it.

Im stoked...anyone that has read comics or knows anything about Caps story knows Falcon is a big part of it. I hope they make him a bad ass

As far as why he has the wings and not others...In the MU they had something called "Augmented Strength" (replacement cap had it)...maybe something along those lines...

When I first started readin' Cap, it was still titled Captain America and the Falcon. So I don' mind 'em bringin' Falcon in. In the books Sam Wilson and Steve became just like brothers.

His power of controlling birds would be very effective in a fight. Imagine hundreds of thousands of birds shitting on you all at once. He could also work as a wrangler for KFC during his down time.

Good to know he plays a big part. Hope he does have some communication with birds or a bird. He probably needed to stay slim to look more birdish. Nobody wants a thick ass falcon,, so they kept him stream lined.

BTW power puff girls are overpowered.
