Geoff Boucher over at the LATimes HeroComplex got the chance to speak with Chris Evans and Joe Johnston and they share their thoughts on the finished film. Johnston compares it in someways to 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', and Evans talks a little bit about Cap arriving in modern times. We also get a brand new image from the film featuring Steve Rogers using a car door as a shield.

Joe Johnston:
“When you sit down to watch it, it’s certainly not ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ which is a very different kind of film in the final analysis,” Johnston said. “But sometimes when we had questions and we were stuck we would say, ‘What would Indiana Jones do? What would be the answer to this in “Raiders of the Lost Ark”?’ I’ve always loved ‘Raiders’ and the great achievement of it was the tone and the fresh feeling of the movie. It was period but didn’t feel like it was made in the period. It felt like a contemporary film about this period in the past, and that is the goal we have with ‘Captain America.’ And I can say this — it definitely has an Indiana Jones pace.”

Chris Evans On Captain America In Modern Times:
“A great story is a great story no matter when it’s set. Just think about text messaging,” Evans said. “That’s the way I communicate with my friends now. If one them calls me I’m like, ‘Why didn’t you just text me?’ And that’s pretty new. Cellphones haven’t been around that long – I remember when people didn’t have them, really – and the Internet has totally changed the world in a relatively short period of time. Think of how strange all of it would be to someone from the 1940s who looks around and wonders what happened to all the things that were important to them.”

On Seeing Skinny Steve:
“They nailed it, it works, they really put a lot of time into it. It was a big relief for me.”

If he tears that door off from the cab in the movie, that would be awesome

@CommonSense ahahah I didn't even notice the star on the door. LOL clever.

I like that they keep having pick up props to use as shields. Because then it makes more sense in the movie for Stark to make him a shield.

I have to admit, I'm not mad at the reoccuring shield gag. Three times would be perfect. It's pretty funny and it works because they're showing you that the guy, as a weakling, naturally goes for a defensive object. So, when he gets his real shield, it makes more sense than a soldier coming out of left feils like hey, I want a shield. And hey, I want a baseball bat, or whatever. There's history and a reason why he would want it. Bravo, motherphuckers, bravo.

In the script it says there's at least one more shield gag. Apparently Cap runs into a Pizza parlor while being chased by Nazi's with bayonets. He tries to grab a Pizza pan and snatches up a large pizza by accident. The toppings fall off revealing a star shape created by the pepporoni. Then they stab through the pizza and pokes Cap in the stomache. The wound heels like Wolverine and the Nazi's run away when they see this.

The Falcon will never have to worry about getting a cab with a friend like Rogers.

Wow, I like the whole shield concept. This adds some more meat to who Captain America is and will hopefully entice would be film buffs who enjoy analyzing movies with philosophy and such. I'm excited.

This is awesome and shows his Battle ingenuity before his training. Assures me that he will get his proper training and he will be an awesome fighter just like in the comics.

@Dubean33 - agreed! The only difference is that the old cars had a real iron structure, not this piece of paper we have today (of course they absorb impact, but it's so cool to hit a old car w your fist and hear that nice metallic noise).
