EARTH'S MIGHTIEST: When you were going through the casting process, in your mind, what were you looking for? In other words, what qualities did the actor being cast as Captain America have to have?

JOE JOHNSTON: Casting Captain America is really casting two roles...Steve Rogers before and after the transformation from 98 pound weakling to perfect physical specimen. I can't divulge how we're going to do it, but the performance will be Chris Evans from beginning to end. An actor playing Captain America has to embody that backstory and let it inform his understanding of his new self. One of the interesting aspects of the character is the effect that kind of total transformation would have on the his psyche. It gives the character more dimension and the actor playing him a wider range of interesting choices.

Is anything actually posted to this site anymore or is it all just links to Earth's Mightiest?

these articles are somewhat annoying, couldnt you post a brief rundown of the article here at least? It seems to me that if you are able to put a headline on CBM.com and then use it to simply draw viewership away thats not a very fair relationship. You should consider posting a smaller version of the article or the article in its entirety here but use it as a chance to plug other stories or articles at earthsmightiest and draw viewership that way.

As it stands I havent clicked through the link once to view one of these stories, and I'm probably not going to start, because if the headline is on the front of comicbookmovie.com, I feel I should be able to read the story on comicbookmovie.com.

Amen to them! If I wanted to go to Earth's Mightiest to read my CBM news, I'd go there, but I'm here and I would like to read it here.

Dual roles? Chris Evans does look like Steve Rogers before he became Cap, weak, and unfit for anything. Marvel should have at least delayed the film and put the Torch in a gym for a year to get the right look. Evans looks like a frat boy who just ate his first goldfish. God help us all, too bad D.C didn't grab him for something so he couldn't have a chance to f**k Marvel up with Cap.

Earths Mightiest is a part of Comic Book Movie. To be honest, I'm serving as editor over there and since I'm securing the interviews that I'm posting via my vocation as an entertainment journalist, it doesn't seem unreasonable that I post them there and mention them here. The content is free, I'm just asking people to click over to the site where I'm working as editor.

I do make a point of stating in the teasers that these are Earths Mightiest articles so as not to mislead anyone.

It's EarthsMightiest interview, EdGross is the editor, and there's a problem with him posting a link to comicbookmovie's sister site? It's his right to post it 10 links away and in Egyptian hieroglyphics if he wants to!

Thanks EdGross.

How is it whining to make a point once in a clear manner? I'm not on here day in day out moaning about casting decisions or who they hired to do what, I just dont feel like leaving a site I know and trust just to read a news story, now that i know they're sister sites, I'm not as bothered by the idea. And I have no problem with him wanting to post his hard earned interview where as many can see it as possible. I dont think it was necessary to get this up in arms about it.

" I just dont feel like leaving a site I know and trust just to read a news story,"

Ha! Why is that exactly? Are you afraid the other site may try to lure you away with candy or something? Dude, its one link....one extra click, forgive me if pointing out that making a thing out of that constitutes moaning. And i'm Irish, we don't use the word douche so its kind of strange to read myself being called one..please call me a c#nt or something next time.

Great article BTW.

Ed: How do you go about getting the interviews you get? Do you have to pester the Hell out of them or simply ask?

hey! I'm a fat guy! the threat of being lured with candies, cakes, or other goodies is one I have to be constantly aware of!

The douche comment was meant for rormachine, although I edited it out because I thought it was too much. I dont have any ill regard toward ed, he's just trying to promote his site, which is great.

And I'll try to use more region appropriate insults next time I squabble on the internets.

Ror- You, my friend, are a douche! Now you can sleep well tonight.

Seriously guys, it only helps this site to get a leg up from here at CBM. Galactus runs several sites with help from people like Ed here. It only makes CBM stronger to gain more exclusive contacts out there.
EdGross
EdGross - 4/12/2010, 8:45 PM
It's very important to be regionally appropriate, Jimb0.

And please know that I respect your point of view, but I am seriously focused on trying to build Earths Mightiest. While there is some CBM coverage there, it features a wide variety of story subjects and the challenge is to get the word out about what's going on over there. It's my hope that stories like this Captain America one will bring people over and they'll poke around a bit to see what's going on there and like what they'll see.

And Canknucklehead, the great thing is that no one is forcing anyone to click over. The choice is absolutely yours.
JiMb0
JiMb0 - 4/12/2010, 8:51 PM
nah, I was misinformed, or at very least ignorant, as soon as you said they were sister sites I made the jump over, its pretty easy to see the affiliation, and that makes perfect sense to me. To have stories that cross over and help tie together all the sites. I'm not gonna delete my comment because I'd rather just admit I'm wrong than run from what I said.

Kudo's on the scoop and sorry for the confusion. Cheers.

I don't mind clicking a link (if a source is cited, I usually read that anyway) - as long as Ed doesn't mind coming here to read the comments. I'm registered here, but not there - and I'm far too lazy to do both. :)

It's easy to see how they'll make Chris a 98lb weakling - the same way they got Pitt to look old, skinny and wizened in Benjamin Button and the same way they got Worthington's legs to look all atrophied in Avatar. S'called CGI. I hear it's all the rage now.

all the peopl b!tch!ng are noobs that I never see post or write articles. I could care less about the opinions about newbies whining about having to clink a link to a site that was the owner of the original article/interview. STFU AND GTFO if you dont like it.

I would like to see Chris Evans be so devoted to the part that he alters his body like Christian Bale did for the Machinist (super skinny) and then immediately after for Batman Begins (buffed).

Unfortunately I am not looking forward to Captain America as much as Thor and GL but this is a great interview.
