EXCLUSIVE: Joss Whedon On His Contributions to The First Avenger: Captain America

Over at Earth's Mightiest we have an exclusive interview with Joss Whedon in which he discusses the work he did on the screenplay for The First Avenger: Captain America.

"I just got to make some character connections," explains Whedon. "The structure of the thing was really tight and I loved it, but there were a couple of opportunities to find his voice a little bit — and some of the other characters — and make the connections so that you understood exactly why he wanted to be who he wanted to be. And progressing through the script to flesh it out a little bit."

The real highlight of Avengers will not be the action, which I know will be fantastic, but the character interactions and their differences will really set this CBM apart from many. I trust Joss Whedon.

Leee: What will help us in the quest to ensure that Hank and Janet are in the Avengers is the cartoon series that is coming out this fall. They're both members in that team, as they should be. Not having them around will confuse non-comic reading fans of the show. Do we want to confuse these poor kids who enjoy the cartoon and are eager to see a live-action movie starring the same heroes? I sure don't! It takes maybe thirty seconds tops to do a backstory on the two of them to bring the mainstream audience up to speed on who they are.

In order to make the kids who wacht the show happey (who are a lot bigger and more important demgrapic then you nutheadslol) marvel will have to feuter hank and janet in thre first theatrical short in the avengers movie and have them introduced and briefly show what they can do.that way there ar more possibilities for them in the fuetre film because the adence will know who they are. as a matter a fact the black panther is in the cartoon and thers no way hill be in the film other than a post credets scene that leads to avengers 2 in witch hes way more likely.so does that mean kids(or you fanboys for that matter0 will be dispapointed and start to rant and rave about? at least be thankfull were geting this movie by marvel studios.

c'mon! you gotta give people a little more credit than that! it wasn't like i watched the teenage mutant ninja turtles cartoon then was confused about why krang wasn't in the movie!(even tho that would've been awesome!) they'll get it!

if anything the cartoon will make people glad they're not in the movie. no one cares about them anyway.... ;p

For some reason I always thought Whedon wasn't down to earth at all and was totally wrong for The Avengers, but after comic-con, I have total faith in this dude.

Do some of you really think that non-comic viewers of the film are going to freak out that there is no Hank and Janet when they still get to watch Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye on the big screen together? I think not. Kids are going to eat it up and confusion won't even enter their mind. It would be great to have Hank and Janet in the movie, but it certainly isn't going to make or break the film if they aren't.

ranger14@ agreed 100% they suspect a thing in fact as odinsbeard@ says theyl wallow in it and be glad that hank and jan arnt in it.so if you guys decide not to see it becasove them(not to metion evens 3d slj's fury or whaterver sh*t you want to b*tch about that mainstrem audiences especiely kids wont know or care whats realy happinng) then you are really missing out on the oppertunity of a life time and all those kids and non-comic book readers are whats going to generate money.
