Marvel Studios is gearing up to release what will most likely be their next big hit in two weeks,
Captain Marvel! The film marks the first Marvel Cinematic Universe release starring a female lead and has been the source of much controversy amongst fans, so many people have been waiting to see what the reactions and reviews will looks like.
Whenever it gets this close to a movie release, especially something as big as a Marvel Studios film, reactions start to finally release and then are gathered as quickly as possible by all news sites. While normally it pays to be the first one to report something, it seems that many sites were not paying attention to what they were reporting, as one fan got away with sneaking ridiculous twitter reactions onto multiple major news sites.
Fairly reputable sites such as Mashable, CNET, and even Entertainment Weekly have fallen victim to the troll, who is named Ben Mekler. You can see one of his tweets in the below image, which mentions
Friends, the iconic 90's television series.
This is only one of the fake tweet reactions he used that was featured, with another mentioning that the
Friends episode
The One Where Ross Gets High takes place during young Nick Fury's introduction in the upcoming Marvel film. It's obvious that it is all nonsense, as Mekler has pulled similar stunts in the past with multiple movies, including
Avengers: Infinity War.
It's still odd to see so many sites report something without paying attention, and that seems to be Mekler's point, as he has collated his trolling moments from the last year into what he calls
Film Journalism Is Alive.
Captain Marvel is the 21st entry into the Marvel Cinemtic Universe and it features Brie Larson as the title character as she gets caught in a fight between two alien races.
Captain Marvel releases on March 8th.
