CAPTAIN MARVEL Will Have Ties To The Mysterious Quantum Realm First Introduced In ANT-MAN

We know Captain Marvel's powers are cosmic-based in the comics, but it sounds like Marvel might be planning to alter her origins somewhat for the upcoming movie. More past the jump...

Kevin Feige has already heavily implied that Marvel plans to make a few changes to Carol Danvers' origins for her first big-screen adventure, and now we may have some insight into what those changes will entail.

Quantum Physicist Dr. Spiros Michalakis has worked with the studio on a number of projects, and during an interview with Inverse he outlined the importance of The Quantum Realm in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward. Obviously, this alternate dimension is going to play a huge role in the further adventures of Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, but Michalakis also reveals that it will give a “better understanding of Carol Danvers and her place in the MCU“:

“This is exciting for the future. There are different ways that some of these ideas appear on-screen in a few years. Not just for Ant-Man, but also for Captain Marvel and all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

As vague as that is, it does confirm that the Quantum Realm will factor into Captain Marvel's story in some capacity. Could it be that Marvel plans to link it to the ultra-powerful hero's abilities in some way, perhaps?

Possible janet van dyne appearance or simply an antman character appearance?

What if male captain marvel helped antman in the 60s.

@MexicanCipher - This is the MCU. There is no "male captain marvel", the Kree are a non factor in the movies and a Janet Van Dyne cameo would just prove how stupid it was to make an Ant Man movie about old man Pym and not a middle aged Pym passing the Antman torch to Lang while Pym remains as Giant Man.

@BlackHulk - think it might be too early to say there is no male captain marvel yet and the kree can't play a larger role with infinity war coming up and captain marvel not coming out until 2019

@BlackHulk - Could Strange return Pym to the time when Janet disappeared so that they could fight baddies in the Quantum realm together? Or, prevent her from being lost in the first place?
BlackHulk
BlackHulk - 5/26/2017, 8:44 AM
@JonC - Technically he could, but according to all time travel theories, when something is changed in the past it will permanently alter other things in the future. For instance, if Strange were to go back in time and save Janet, then there would likely be no Scott Lang being part of the Avengers and Hope may have either been more alienated from her parents or want to follow their foot steps. But if Strange could do that, he could also go back in time and save Quicksilver, prevent Coulson from getting killed, or even prevent Loki from stealing the Tesseract which lead to many events after the Avengers. And at the end of the day, time travel in a fantastical sense can be an asset and liability to the storytelling. Because at what point would it end? Strange could essentially rewrite history all together which may even cancel out his current existence depending on what happens.

@JonC - or she has been alive this whole time just unable to escape the quantum realm

@BlackHulk - They're redoing her origin, so it seem that they could have a previous, male captain marvel. I don't think they will, but if they're changing her history, they can change anything.

@JumpRay - And that's one of my issues with the approach. if it aint broke, don't fix it. The MCU turned the Kree into some mindless monolithic group lead by Ronan that all perished in GOTG. Simply keeping Ms. Marvels origin story or tweaking it to be more with the times could have established a more believable link between earth and interstellar travel/GOTG characters.

@BlackHulk - I agree. I think there may be some rights issues they're juggling with Fox, but I'm not sure. I so want to see the Kree, Skrull, Shi'ar, in the MCU. Of course, I won't hold my breath. It may be easier from a storytelling perspective to tie her origins into a system (quantum realm) that they've already established. The more they can separate characters from origins that others own, the better position they'll be in to a) expand and b) shut down the competition.

@BlackHulk - All the Kree didnt perish in Guardians, it was 1 ship. There are still plenty of Kree out there. If we see them or not remains to be seen but they are far from destroyed or nonexistent in the MCU. .. As far as time travel rules go, I seem to remember Stephen Strange undoing a pretty massive event using tim travel. Granted, it was only a matter of minutes worth of time reversal, but there may still be ramifications and that didnt stop Marvel from using the Time Stone or time travel as a solution.

@BlackHulk - I not sure about the kree non-factor. In gotg the Kree played a role, ronan for example and kree people both pink and blue are displayed throughout the movie. I wouldn't say they are a nonfactor

I know it doesn't matter, but I really hope her powers aren't gadget based. I could see them going with something like the quantum bands. I would much rather her power to come within, making her unique as opposed to an invention.

@Dacci - I agree completely. Now, don't misinterpret me. I like how Stark and Lang use tech to get their abilities, but I would really like it if Danvers got hers through some cosmic means. I'll accept we won't get to see Mar-Vell, but I want them to stay within the cosmic realm somehow.

Are we still assuming she was the patient mentioned in Dr Strange when he crashes his car? How does the Quantum realm come into play trying to cure her of her schizophrenia? Now i'm interested!
