The Captain Marvel press release announcing the movie's official start of production featured a fair few surprises, including the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy star Lee Pace will be reprising the role of Ronan the Accuser in the upcoming release. Before you start theorising about how he'll return from the dead, bear in mind that Captain Marvel is set in the past during the height of the Kree/Skrull War.

During a recent interview to promote his new Broadway show Angels in America, Pace was asked about his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and while he didn't reveal much, the actor expressed his excitement about playing Ronan again and said he doesn't know much about the movie!

"I know nothing," Pace claimed. "I don’t know anything. I wish I could tell you all the secrets, but I don’t know any secrets! I’m excited to be back." He must know something but Captain Marvel is shrouded in an awful lot of secrecy, so chances are he's being kept in the dark until closer to the time he's required on set. Are you psyched to see Ronan back in action? Let us know your thoughts below.

I'm really hoping Captain Marvel is Ronan's "Rocky 4". His last big hurrah when he goes ham on the commie Skrulls on behalf of his people.

Because his weak sauce crusade against Xandar was definitely his "Rocky 5".

More Lee Pace is best Lee Pace as far as I'm concerned, now if you'll excuse me I'm going to continue to wallow in the cancellation of Pushing Daisies and the loss of his beautiful and loveable Ned.

Ronan's backstory was cut by the CC and Ike as Gunn confirmed in twitter last year. I( think Feige realizes that and will try to flesh him out more this time even if it's a prequel.

@Jeight8 - Apparently, he had Celestial blood. This was part of the script, and in the gag reel footage of the dance off scene:

It would also be interesting to see Nebula, before losing his hair.

i thought Ronan was a decent villain only let down by the last scene where he stopped all thoughts of destroying everything and everyone on the planet as he wanted to know what a dance off was! that was a "Martha" moment which didn't fit right to be honest.

@Tweekie - Completely disagree. I feel it was entirely in keeping with Ronan's overly serious character to be completely blindsided by something so silly as a dance off.

I think there are plenty of examples from real life psychologies that show this tactic of subverting the situation works, both in verbal arguments as well as physical.

@Tweekie - I mean, I tell jokes to people trying to beat me up all the time(used to happen surprisingly often back in high school) and it seems to always distract them long enough for me to run away. It really does work. (FWI, I would like to say that I could usually fend off my attackers if it didn't work, as while I'm not strong I'm very fast and somewhat acrobatic. )

I like him too, surprised there was so much backlash for his character in Guardians of the Galaxy I thought he was one of their better villains

I'm stoked that they're bringing him (& the others) back. There is a ton of potential for some really cool stuff with him. & giving him more depth will retroactively improve his part in the first Guardians movie. Can't wait

I actually thought Ronan being a more generic "baddie" was great, and it served as a stark contrast against the unconventional "a-hole" Guardians of the Galaxy who were anything but generic. I still think it was an intentional move by Gunn to make Ronan this generic overacting antagonist, and it added a lot to the comedy for me. I never understood why people didn't like him. It seems like it was the point that he was this whole "destroy the galaxy" dude with little development, and this rag tag team with all their problems has to stop him, instead of a Captain America or Thor (pre-Ragnarok) type.

Lee Pace was great in Halt and Catch Fire on AMC. Glad to hear his Ronan is getting another outing in the MCU. Let's see if we can get a bit more accurate with his outfit this time...
