In The Marvels' mid-credits scene, Monica Rambeau - who was stranded in an alternate universe after using her powers to seal a tear in reality created by Dar-Benn - wakes up in a hospital bed and finds her mom staring back at her.
She's initially overwhelmed with happiness, but this "reunion" is cut short when the doctor walks in: Kelsey Grammer's Beast. The comic-accurate take on that hero confirms she's in a universe parallel to her own (noting it should be impossible) and leaves right after telling Maria that Charles - a.k.a. Professor X - is waiting for an update.
He refers to her as Binary and, when she stands up, we see the hero's impressive costume in all its glory. After the mutant demands to know who Monica is, the Earth-616 hero simply responds with, "Oh, sh*t..."
It was a great note to end things on and one which suggests the X-Men will be key to Marvel Studios' Multiverse Saga plans. Whether this is the same world we'll explore in Deadpool 3 remains to be seen, of course, but in an interview with The Wrap, Grammer finally addressed his shocking MCU debut.
"It is my hope that you will [see him again]," the actor teased. "I can say with a certain amount of confidence that you will. I would love to."
After first playing Henry "Hank" McCoy in X-Men: The Last Stand, the actor would later reprise the role in X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, some VFX wizardry has created a Beast who looks like he's stepped straight out of the comics...or X-Men: The Animated Series!
Grammer went on to say he's been "very pleased" with the response to his appearance in The Marvels and revealed that "a lot of people got in touch" with him after they saw it.
"I’ve always wanted to play him again," the Frasier star adds. "I see him as an extraordinary character, a real character of gravitas and importance in our culture. I’m delighted Beast is back and hope he’s back in a real way."
Whether he's playing a new-look Beast from Fox's original X-Men Universe or one of the Multiverse Saga's many Variants, it's incredibly exciting to think Grammer's interpretation of this character could be a major player not only in Deadpool 3, but the upcoming Avengers movies as well. Heck, depending on what Marvel has planned for the X-Men post-Secret Wars, he may even be in this for the long haul!
The Marvels is now playing in theaters.
