Nightwing has been a staple of the DC Universe for nearly thirty years, but that’s about to change.

Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool received word that the DC Comics title “Nightwing” which is to end this month with issue #30, will replaced by a new title simply called “Grayson”.

Comics fan know that Richard “Dick” Grayson was the original Robin from 1940 to 1984, until he adopted a superhero identity to distance himself from appearing to be just Batman’s ex-sidekick. The change in identity was a huge moment of character development for Dick Grayson, who would become a prolific hero in his own right.

In the latest DC Comics company-wide event “Forever Evil”, The Crime Syndicate reveal Nightwing’s identity as that of Richard “Dick” Grayson, making his superhero identity redundant.

Fans have been speculating what direction DC would be taking the character following the event, assuming he even made it out alive, and it looks like we now know. It appears Grayson will continue his superhero career without the Nightwing identity, though it remains to be seen if he’ll create a new superhero identity.

Regardless, this marks a huge change in the status quo for the character.
