ACTION COMICS SPOILERS: The Identity Of Mr. Oz Has Been Revealed And It's Not Who You Expected
The mystery of Mr. Oz has been plaguing us all for months now and many believe that it has something to do with Watchmen based event The Doomsday Clock. Well, the villain's identity has now been revealed!
Mr. Oz was first introduced during Geoff Johns and John Romita Jr.'s Superman run. Since then, he's been stalking Superman and pulling the Man of Steel's strings. He's also kidnapped a number of different heroes and villains for unknown reasons and all the clues have pointed to him being Ozymandias from the Watchmen Universe. However, Action Comics #987 reveals his true identity.
As you can see below, he's actually Jor-El, the father of Superman who it was believed perished on Krypton after sending his infant son to Earth. Many fans believe he was rescued from that fate by Dr. Manhattan and now serves his cause but it seems we're going to learn his origin story in the next issue of this title. However, due to Johns' involvement, it's hard to believe his return isn't somehow connected to the events of upcoming event series The Doomsday Clock (featuring Dr. Manhattan).
Either way, the return of Jor-El is significant but with two different versions of Superman present in the DC Universe - the current iteration is from the Pre-New 52 Universe but has had his memories merged with The New 52 Supes - we don't know which version of the character this actually is or if he's real.
