COMICS: First Look At The Savage Hawkman

COMICS: First Look At The Savage Hawkman

This is one of DC's New 52 we haven't seen too much from yet. Hawkman is not a very popular character, but can Tony Daniel and Philip Tan change all that? Check out the 4 page preview..

Carter Hall’s skill at deciphering lost languages has led him to a job with an archaeologist who specializes in alien ruins – but will the doctor’s latest discovery spread an alien plague through New York City? No matter the personal cost, Carter Hall must don his wings and become the new, savage Hawkman to survive! Witness the start of a new action series from writer Tony S. Daniel and artist Philip Tan that will take Hawkman where no hero has flown before!

Poor Hawkman gets no love. I don't particularly dislike the character but nor have I ever felt compelled to read any of his solo comics. I'll definitely pick this up and give it a go though. The Savage Hawkman #1 hits shelves this Wednesday.

Yes I want to read this. Love Hawkman and Tony Daniel.

Read Batwoman #1 today, and that was really good.

Love Hawkman, big part of the character to me is he's a bad ass that could rival batman's toughness, so having the SAVAGE Hawkman in the title is a good sighn.

The art looks good and I'm not very familiar with Tony Daniel, I only know him from the new Detective comics, and its my favorite title so far so thats good enough for me.

After seeing a couple of previews that dident exactly excite me on some of the titles I was looking forward to, Superman, Firestorm, Flash, this is a nice change.

Bring on the Savage Hawkman!!!

What is the point of moving Hawkman to New York?

@Froggy: AGREED! I've never been able to get into the character because of his continuity, or lack thereof. Wonder if/when they are going to bring in the Hawkgirl, resurected, ill-fated lovers from across time...thingy.

I never appreciated Hawkman until my friend described him to me:
Imagine Wolverine...... but with wings.

That did it for me.

well, there have been so many re-imagings of Hawkman..it can be rather confusing,but I give him props cause he's old skool. I think of him as Conan the barbarian with wings tho.lol

@Froggy, GL Geek
I thought Johns did a nice job of clearing up the convuluted continuity when he brang him back a almost a decade ago by mixing both the Thanagaranian background with the reincarnated Egyptian prince story in the JSA, and then giving him his own series that Johns wrote back in 03.

That series was awesome, to Hawkman's updated costume, to his bad ass personality, I loved that series, until Infinite crisis came and messed everything up and for some weird ass reason they put Hawkgirl in the spotlight, I hope they keep to that Hawkman that Johns brought back.

Yes thats right people, Johns only great deed wasent only making GL great again but he's the man who brought back the JSA and made them awesome, and brought back Hawkman as well and made him awesome too.

No mention that Daniel's since been replaced by Robinson on this title. Either way I'm buying!

@Fastest: Thanks! I'm off to to my local shop to search that out. I must have missed it by a couple of years. Only got into JSA a little before crisis #... 3? 4? Whatever, hit.

Tony Daniels now WRITES?? why can't he pull off an Alan Davis, where he does BOTH..write AND draw??

anyways...so what's da deal here...is Jean Grey making a cross over cameo as Phoenix, or what?? is the new Hawkman a mystical "hawk"-like being, instead of just a guy with wing harnesses and a mask/helmet?? is Carter gonna turn into a man-hawk being, like the Hawkman in Kingdom Come, or what..??

i've always thought Hawkman would be better as a 'were'hawk-like creature, like a werewolf with wings and a bigass mace than just a regular joe with wing harnesses and a big ol' mace...

Love Hawkman, hope this title gets him on the right track.

That being said, this has to be the worst redesign in the whole DCboybandgenerationU

Yea its definitly worth checking out, I believe Johns bringing back the JSA was the beginning of his hits, I believe the series started in 1999 so yea it was a while back.

@BlueMex
I was thinking about that but i dident include it cuz I dont think it was as popular as his other stuff, it had great potential bringing back the original Teen titans with Starfire, Cyborg, Beast%2

I would have read Hawkman if the continuity wasn't so [frick]ed up, and if it were easier to get comics where I live

I've never liked Hawkman. Maybe its because of his beef with Ollie, but he just seems like a real dick most of the time. However the art in this book looks great.
Shaman
Shaman - 9/27/2011, 6:12 AM
That HAS to be the worst drawing of a truck i've ever seen in a [frick]ing professional comic book. Put Daniels on ART, not writing duties.

And, as cool as i find a winged He-Man look-a-like with Wolverine's persona to be, the character itself isn't even as famous as Condorman for [frick]'s sake. The guy practically gets less attention than Aquafag. He either needs to get awesome A.S.A.P. or fly away for good!

Every single character has the potential to be awesome. Except Aquafag. But it does depend on the writer and especially on the company that sheds the spotlight.

So then make him do both, Finch style. But get Tan away from the drawing board. To would be such a better choice, actually. Can't wait for his Huntress!
