COMICS: Geoff Johns Promises No Nazi Superman In DOOMSDAY CLOCK #1 Much To The Relief Of Fans
Doomsday Clock promises to change the DC Universe forever and writer Geoff Johns has promised we won't be getting any HydraCap style twists! There's also an interesting link to "The Death of Superman."
Marvel's last event - Secret Empire - caused a great deal of controversy due to the fact it starred what was essentially a Nazi Captain America and almost endless tie-in issues. DC Comics isn't going down that route with Doomsday Clock as the story will be self-contained as a twelve issue series written by Geoff Johns with art by Gary Frank. It also sounds like it won't be anywhere near as controversial.
During the Doomsday Clock panel at the New York Comic-Con last night, Johns was asked by a fan how he intends on pushing characters in new directions without doing something "crazy like making Captain America Hydra." Much to the delight of fans in attendance, Johns replied: "Well, Superman’s not going to be a Nazi, or anything like that. It’s just the balance of the writing. You’ll see in the book, and hopefully we balance it and people enjoy it." That was met with cheers by those in the crowd.
Johns also confirmed that the time difference between the two universes (with DC being set in the present day and Watchmen being back in 1992) will be addressed but fans have since noticed something very interesting about the date when the latter picks up. It's one weekend after "The Death of Superman" was released so could it be that Dr. Manhattan was the one who resurrected him?
It's certainly possible based on the cover of Doomsday Clock #1 but we'll have to wait and see for now. After all, much of this story remains a mystery to us but you can check out a preview right here.
