Courtesy of Bleeding Cool, we now have four new pages from the upcoming first issue of Detective Comics in the recently launched DCnU. Check them out below...

In addition, USA Today caught up with writer/artist Tony Daniel on the issue. Below he says the following...

“It allows me to do some edgier stories,” he says. “We’re concentrating on serial killers and real bad guys in Gotham City— the scum of the earth — so I get to have a really good film-noir vibe going on with the character: dark, gritty, intense story lines that wouldn’t have felt right with the more superhero-y Batman comic.”

Daniel also talks about a new villain created specifically for the new Detective Comics line called 'Dollmaker', who’s "an all-new baddie created by Daniel who turns his victims into hodge-podge trophy dolls that are sold to the highest bidder."

“His goal is to take some of Gotham’s elite and turn them into collectables,” says Daniel, who has surrounded the Dollmaker with a crazy (and crazy-looking) “family” of accomplices that Batman will meet next month in the second Detective Comics issue. One is reminiscent of a human Jack in the Box, another looks like a monkey with cymbals that bangs on people’s heads or cuts them open, and he even has a giant robot.

Be sure to check out Detective Comics #1 when it hits stores on Wednesday!

I saw a question earlier about what they could possibly do different with Batman without making him a nutjob and I think this is a step in the right direction for the character. Even though I haven't read any Tony Daniel stories before, I believe it will really benefit the character if they can manage to go even 25 issues without using a character that has super powers or having other heroes guest star.

Dollmaker sounds like an awesome idea if they go real dark and gory with it. I wanna see one of Bruce Wayne's friend's torso stuck on a jack-n-the-box.... ha!
