What Are The Chances Of A SAGA Movie Adaptation? Brian K. Vaughan Weighs In

What are the odds that Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples' award-winning space opera comic book, Saga, receives a live-action adaptation? BKV says only one minor thing needs to occur first.

In the last five years, there's been no comic book series that debuted to higher praise or prolonged fanfare than Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples' Saga. With BKV's Runaways set to premiere as a live-action series on Hulu and  a Y: The Last Man television adaptation in the works, his projects are certainly gaining a lot of attention in Hollywood.

That, of course, leads to the inescapable question of when a television or film adaptation of Saga will occur?  Speaking to Comic Book Resources, Vaughn replied:

"Maybe when the story is finished? I think Fiona and I are both open to Saga possibly being translated into another medium someday, and we’ve gotten a lot of very flattering offers, but for the moment, we’re just concentrating on trying to make the greatest comic book we can."

Saga has earned BKV and Staples six Eisner Awards (and counting) and seemingly has plenty of fertile ground left to explore in its exceptionally exotic alien world.

After a brief hiatus, Saga returned to monthly publication with issue 43 hitting retailer shelves yesterday.

@McGee - I have never been able to like this comic book... I'm not saying it is bad at all because it is not. But It is just not for me I guess.

I prefer Jim Balent's Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose (Just Kidding on this)

@KikinGonzalez - What's funny is that this is probably the only Vaughan book that I do like. I feel like the scope is too big for a good adaptation, though.

@McGee - Saga is the best comic I've ever read. As much as I'd love a move franchise, I don't think they could do it justice without a huge budget for all the character and world cgi. I think the best bet for this one would be an animated series on netflix.

I would love to see an adaption. But honestly this might need to be some crazy style or completely animated. A high quality animated version would be incredible. Agree with @MrGrieves that I am not sure it would capture the magic of the comics. It would have to be sort of like sin city and 300 style where majority green screen and set pieces with mostly cgi integration for the world

I think a TV show would be the best route for such an immense universe.

I'd love to see Paper Girls transferred to the screen too

...once we figure out exactly what the hell is going on.

I always imagined Saga as more of Netflix series or HBO series type of material.

Needs to be a TV show, and it needs to stick closely to the design and narrative of the source material.
