The following is based on personal opinion, I don't intend to sway anyone here, just here to speak my mind. As many of us have seen over the years Fox has been shelling out terrible movie after terrible movie over the recent decade. The best case of that was in 2008, when Warner Brothers made the most money thanks to the success of The Dark Knight. Fox that year only released 3 films that summer and they all bombed horribly(Dragon Ball Evolution was the biggest by far). Most films they release now are tended for the young audience, like the chipmunk movies(no matter how awful they make money), and are known for making terrible choices when it comes to interference with a film, like Borigins. I have been disappointed by them over the years and have seen then grown a hatred of them for shamelessly drilling into old franchises, poor adaptations of comics, product placement strewn about in there films, and overall poorly done workmanship.
I remember for a time that they have made "GOOD" films. Mel Brooks worked with them and I see him as one of the great comedy gods. They made Alien, Aliens, the Predator movies(the first one was great, 2 was OK), the X-men series, Die Hard 1-4, and many other great movies. Then suddenly there came a period where they made bad movies, yet made money, like the new star wars trilogy, Aliens VS Predator 1&2, Dragon ball evolution, street fighter: legend of chun li, the Garfield films, Borigins, and a few others. For every 1 good film they make, they make 5 pieces of crap not worth to be on celluloid.
We all have our moments of hating the studio, lets not forget the horror they inflicted during the Watchmen scandal, yet it was settle fast, but the fact they attacked as it got popular instead of when it was filming makes them look like idiots. Then there a people who hate them for butchering the things they cherish like Dragon ball Evolution, Street Fighter, the Alien Series beyond 2, and of course Borigins.
Now I know film making is a business, it's about creating a product that everyone wants to see, and for the studio to make the film's budget back in ticket sales, plus change(like a say a film made for 10 million dollars and it makes 15 million back, there's a 5 million dollar gain). However it seems that Fox would shell out money to anything that seems profitable and then if the film bombs, they treat it like nothing. They have this attitude of making money over making a good product, which shouldn't be for any media, that's just a cop out to me.
As for the franchise films they own, they seem to be aiming for the teenage audience and making ALL their films PG-13, like Live Free or Die Hard, they butchered the John Mclane character by making him much tamer without his smoking and cursing. The first 2 X-men films were groundbreaking and enjoyable films, but then after that 3 and Borigins, it seemed to be down hill(although they made money, the product was horrible). As for their young audience films....I'm not gonna dignify them with a review of them.
So with all this said, you pretty much see I have lost faith in them, but I have seen a small flicker of hope. After seeing Avatar I was amazed by how it was, I don't care about all those people pointing out the obvious that its Dances with Smurfs, or Pocahontas with aliens or any of that all stupid stuff. I go to movies to be entertained, and it did it's job. I find it funny that a movie that has a supposed left wing objective is made by a right wing company and owner(oh the irony). With the recent trailer of Predators and after seeing the A-team trailer, it seems Fox is getting their act together and make films intended for older audiences and look BAD-ASS(seeing Liam Nesson's character smoking the cigar shows they intend to be faithful). With the Dead-pool Movie being written by the guys behind Zombie-land I'm having deeper faith in that they will make this movie funny and violent(Its funny it won't be a spin-off of Borigins) and with First Class being made which will be teen oriented of course but if it brings in new fans to the X-men universe, then so be it.
And so that's my outlook on Fox, they had their ups and downs, like all studios, but they seem to be more mocked than praised. Hopefully with the upcoming films I mentioned, this will give them more creditability again with their mature and adult crowds. Til next time BlackAirs Out!!
