4 Solo Films I Want to See in MCU

With Ant-Man and Doctor Strange already on schedule, I summarize 4 new solo films I'd like to see in the MCU (non-sequels).

Alright.  This is only like, the third article I've ever made.  But I finally came up with the plot summaries for the four new solo films I most want to see in the MCU.  And before anyone points it out, I think Nova should be a Netflix Phase 2 series along with Darkhawk and Night Thrasher culminating in the New Warriors series.

The Marvel Universe has a great many characters to provide the MCU.  Ka-Zar, Alpha Flight and Black Knight or even Captain Britain(if it's even possible for Marvel) would be great ways of expanding the scope of MCU's Earth.  We'd be venturing out to Canada, UK (moreso than in Thor 2) and even as far out as The Savage Land.  But there is no place more immediately needing to be explored than a small isolated kingdom deep in the heart of Africa.

1. The Black Panther

All his life, young Prince T'Challa has been different, curious of the world beyond his isolated kingdom in the heart of the African continent.  So, when his father finally sent him abroad to study the ways of the world, naturally, he jumped at the chance.

Now returned, a man, T'challa urges his father to open their great kingdom, Wakanda, to the wider world.  But he is not the only one returned to the shining tribal city and its unique advanced technology.  M'Baku, "Man-Ape" of the White Gorilla Tribe has come to challenge T'chaka of the Panther Tribe, proud leader of the realm for the right to the throne.  With the help of Ulysses Klaw, one of T'challa's old Professors, obsessed with the rare orre, Vibranium, found only in Wakanda, Man-Ape kills T'challa's father before his very eyes.  T'challa must now take on his father's role as Black Panther and save his kingdom, his tribe-his sister, before M'Baku and Klaw destroy their chances of joining the rest of the world in peace.

For the next solo, I know a lot of people are anxious to see the first female solo film be a cosmic success.  Ms. Marvel is an icon Marvel and has been a long time.  But she didn't start off as superpowered from the get go.  Captain Mar-Vell deserves just as big a play in the MCU.  Even now, his legacy and legend permeates the comics.  Thanos is no stranger to him.  And the Skrulls award him a Medal of Honor declaring him one of their greatest foes on his death bed.

But lets take a step back.  Back to what made him interesting in the first place.  A celebrated soldier on extended mission in a foreign land begins to question his own patriotism.  And thus is born the legend.  If Marvel can't get Silver Surfer to turn against Galactus to protect Earth, then Captain Mar-Vell will easily play the role, turning against the entire Kree Empire, to save a backwater planet he has found worth protecting.

2. MARVEL
Golden-boy Super Soldier, Captain Mar-Vell of the intetrgalactic Kree Empire adopts Earth, planet he was sent to spy on, betraying his own race, and falls in love with the beautiful and spunky Air Force Major, Carol Danvers.

The Kree Empire is a hundred-thousand Star-Systems strong, lead by a vast supercomputer called the Supreme Intelligence.

Now because of Mar-Vell's actions, he and Carol, with the help of the Sentient World Observation and Response Division (S.W.O.R.D.) set up after the invasion of New York, must find a way to stop the approaching galactic armada before the full might of the Kree Empire lays down their law and wipes Humanity from exist
ence.

Witness the beginning of the legend that is Captain Mar-Vell and the birth of a new hero, Ms. Marvel.

Note: Yes, Carol gets her powers in the third act.  But not until after her character is well established independant of being defined by those powers.  She's not Pepper Potts or Jane Foster.  She's not a sideline love interest.  She becomes the co-lead character of this story.  That is why the film is simply called MARVEL.

If there's one place on Earth besides Wakanda, we want to see its the Savage Land right?  Jungles, dinosaurs, half-naked blonde dudes with giant pet cats.  It's like getting Jurassic Park and Tar-Zan at the same time!  Your right, your right.  The Savage Land is way to hot and humid and sweltering, and those giant bugs!  Okay, how bout we take a dip t cool off.  In fact, how 'bout we take a dive.  All the way to Atlantis!

"Namor was I born.  Avenging Son.  Spawn of two worlds-yet fated to belong to none."

3. The Submariner

Namor, Prince to the throne of Atlantis.  Half Human-half Atlantean.  In his youth, he remembers the Great War that tore the upper worlds asunder.  For the safety of his own realm, he fought alongside surface heroes like the Captain and the burning Torch to rid the world of the evil spawned in the lands called Germany.  But his alliance with the surface dwellers made an upopular impression amongst his suspicious citizens.  To prove his loyalty Namor retreated to the seas and promised his people never to return to the world above.

A political storm has been brewing however, and while Atlantean Warlord, Krang, contests Namor for the hand of Lady Dorma, rising out of the West, in the city of Lemuria, one calling himself Attuma has declared the throne of Atlantis as his destiny and is assembling an army to take it.  To top it off, a human intruder, some genetically modified terrorist known only as Tigershark strikes chaos in the watery realm and causes a wave of doubt and unrest in the citizens once again.

Namor will need to bring all his strength and cunning to fend off Attuma's army while keeping his  Kingdom from crumbling around its shaky throne.
"Imperius Rex!"

So, where do we go from here?  Well, how about a tour through the Greek cotuntryside.  That beautiful mountain Olympus.  Hey, you thought Asgardians were the only myths to be real in the MCU?  Think again.  But honestly, who else is Thor gonna have as good a drinking buddy in?  Hercules is much more reckless and willing to be a quirky goof than his equally powerful mead-brother, Thor.  Then again, Herc never had to worry about responsibly taking over his father's throne one day.
"Thor was rejuvenated by the rain from the storm he'd created as Hercules relinquished Dionysus' pig and, vowing to never again forget Thor's name or face, scooped up two arm-loads of beauteous women and strode away."

4. Hercules: Prince of Power
Hercules, once the great hero of a long forgotten age now clouded in myth.  He accomplished many great deeds, had several great loves along his long life, and even once saved all of Olympus from the threat of Titanian Giants.

But the man who's just woken in a hospital bed in Greece does not remember these things.  He does not recognize the title Prince of Power.  He does not even remember his own name.  He believes he is just a normal former coma patient with amnesia.  That is, until the day a two-headed wolf attacks him and a teenage boy also a patient at the hospital that has befriended him.

Memories jostle about in his head.  Impossible memories full of myths and monsters.  But all too soon they fade to vagueness.  A distant dream.  Hercules sets out with his new companion, teenage genius Amadeus Cho, to regain his full memories hoping they lead to whoever put him in the coma and why.  But old ressurrected enemies come to silence him.  A hydra, a giant lion, the dragon Ladon...  Soon Hercules realizes there's only one god with the power to ressurect these old monsters.  Pluto.  And as the three-headed dog of Hades itself comes bounding at his heels, Hercules also remembers Pluto has unleashed Typhon, the great father of monsters, and is about to lay seige to an unsuspecting Olypmus.  To save the city, the Lion of Olympus and Amadeus Cho race to find a weakness in Typhon and expose Pluto's deceit before the great city of gods comes tumbling out of its dimension and crashes into Greece.

So that's my shot at the four new solos I want Marvel to tackle.  Something tribal, something undersea, something cosmic and something well, "Herky".  Hope you guys enjoyed.  Hey Hercules, you enoyed it right?

Cool, I knew you would god-bro.

Cool article. I agree with most of it. Isn't Namor owned by Universal or something?

It is. For now...

Actually, I think Feige said the rights were complicated but if there was going to be a Namor movie Marvel Studios would be the ones doing it.

I would love both Ms. Marvel and Black Panther to become part of the MCU, but I don't know about Namor or Hercules. With Aquaman apparently set to appear or make a small cameo in BvS:DOJ I think to many comparisons would be made between him and Namor, since they are really similar. Also since there is no lack of Hercules movie's already I think it would be kinda pointless for Marvel to introduce their version of the character no matter how awesome he is.

Honestly I don't want them to do a full Namor film, because if they did, the likely hood of him going bad drops quite a bit. I'd prefer to see him in a Defenders or Illuminati film, showing his darker side a bit, like a more on the line Wolverine. Then later when we see him join the Cabal (or masters of evil, but Cabal sounds way cooler), we kind of understand where that came from.

I mean, i don't know how long they are going to do the MCU, but if the first 3 phases are Thanos, then next three should embody stories such as, Civil War, Secret Invasion, Secret War, Dark Reign, Dark Avengers, the Cabal, and finally (a much more revised) Seige.

Let's just hope by the time that the likes of Norman Osborne and Dr. Doom.

@DrDoom So equality is ridiculous? Men and women shouldn't share leadership equally in a film? Just marginalize the man and put the woman up front cause you don't care about him?

I don't think Doom is preaching inequality. I think he's preaching that Mar-Vell is a crap character and would make a crap movie.

Preach on.

@scionstorm don't be dumb, would you expect to see Black Panther, Namor and Herecules sharing leadership in the ideas you just proposed? It's okay for films to have a main protagonist. We haven't seen a good superhero film with staring a woman as the titular character. Superhero movies, except for the X-Men movies are a sausage fest, it shouldn't be that way. It's okay for us to see a Wonder Woman film with only 2 male characters in it, that isn't anymore unequal than The Avengers, or Iron Man, or pretty much any other superhero film.

Women have been marginalized in this sub genre for decades, there is no reason to get upset at the notion a female lead superhero film.

My four are probably similar to most people. T'Challa, Danvers, Rider, and my fourth would be a low budget Hawkeye movie adapting the current Fraction run.

The opinion that Captain Mar-Vell is crap is an opinion. For me, it is not my opinion. I care about Carol Danvers. But I also care about Mar-Vell. He is highly respected in the comics.

Ms. Marvel's origin is completely intertwined with Mar-Vell's turn to becoming a superhero. I am not dumb. I simply want to see both characters respectfully represented in the MCU-and that does not include any story hellbent on killing Mar-Vell off as soon as possible so someone who has only taken the name Captain Marvel in the last five years can usurp his identity and negate the individual identity she has created for herself in the last 40+ years.

And I'm saying that it is indeed my opinion that Mar-Vell is a crap character. If Feige decided to totally rewrite how Danvers got her powers, make her the first Captain Marvel, and have Mar-Vell literally cease to exist in the MCU, I wouldn't lose 5 seconds of sleep over it.

really think hercules could use a movie. People are sick of the old hercules, so this would be a great switchup.

Yes, i would love to see all of these films in the MCU. I would especially love to see number 4 but i'm patiently waiting for an announcement of a Marvel Hercules film.

I think Namor is supposed to be complicated because he is half mutant?
TheOverlord
TheOverlord - 9/22/2014, 4:45 PM
Black Panther now!
ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 9/22/2014, 6:14 PM
@homodrome I don't think there is such thing as a half mutant. If you have the active X gene then you are a mutant no matter what else you might be. Those little wings on his feet are what manifested from his X gene. They grant him the power of flight. In fact, I think Namor was the first superhero to fly, back when Superman was still just leaping tall buildings in a single bound.

Universal Studios has rights to Namor in the same way they had rights to Incredible Hulk. So Marvel would probably have to work out a deal like they did for the first Incredible Hulk movie to make Namor.

"IGN: Finally, there were rumours circulating awhile back that Universal and Legendary Pictures were developing a Sub-Mariner movie, but there was also some confusion about who holds the rights to the character. So could Legendary make that movie at this point?

Feige: No.

IGN: So if a film were to happen it would be you guys making it?

Feige: Yes, but it’s slightly more complicated than that. Let’s put it this way – there are entanglements that make it less easy. There are older contracts that still involve other parties that mean we need to work things out before we move forward on it. As opposed to an Iron Man or any of the Avengers or any of the other Marvel characters where we could just put them in."
ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 9/22/2014, 6:21 PM
So its less easy to make the movie than other properties. But, ultimately, it is Marvel Studios right to adapt it to film.
