We're sorry to ruin your Saturday evening with some awful news, but reports are coming in that legendary artist, writer and philanthropist, George Perez, has died at the age of 67 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed away yesterday at his home in Sanford with his wife and family by his side.

The legendary artist announced his diagnosis last December, and comic book fans have kept him in their thoughts ever since, with regular tributes pouring in on social media. Perez, who co-created the modern incarnation of the Teen Titans and is credited with revitalizing DC Comics in the '80s, will go down in history as one of the most influential creators of all time.

Perez’s memorial service will take place at Megacon Orlando, Florida at 6pm on Sunday, May 22nd. The service will be open to all who wish to pay their respects.

Please feel free to share tributes of your own in the comments section, and maybe post some of your favorite artwork.

We just lost Neal Adams, and now Mr. Peréz. Surely this is a sign of Ragnarök cometh, when titans of old start to pass away.

I am heartbroken that he passed. He signed my Infinity Gauntlent #1, JLA/Avengers #1, and Sirens #1 a few years ago at my comic book store. He was so nice. I said to him ‘You keep drawing and writing comics, and I’ll keep buying them!’ He said ‘Thanks, man! I will!’ I never forgot that…never will.

Feels like a lot of the icons of comics are starting to pass away these days sad to say. It's a damn shame as well George was one of my favourite artists and a bloody great titan in the industry.

Seriously this guy may have drawn every major character from both companies at some point, even if you dont count jla avengers

fun fact, when jla avengers was officially back on he had an exclusive deal with another company. he put in his contract that if the book got made he would be allowed to do it

Another legend gone. Sad to hear, I hope his family finds peace and comfort. Hopefully he found that himself.

Did the cancer kill him, or did trying to treat the cancer kill him?

Man..... this is so sad. I've lost so many loved ones to cancer, spent thousands over the years contributing to cancer charities and loved ones GoFundMe's.

[frick] CANCER!!!

Rest In Paradise George.

@ElricReturns - When he was diagnosed last December he decided he wanted to spend his last remaining days with loved ones rather than laying in a hospital bed so he opted out of treatment. A blessing really because his loved ones and fans got the chance to express how much he meant to them before he passed. 😔

@ElricReturns - Pancreatic cancer starts with almost no symptoms and by the time you think something is wrong it's almost already too late to really do anything about it. A lot of people only find out when the cancer is in Stage IV, and by then only like 1% of people survive five years.

I was lucky enough to meet him at London comic con and by coincidence I was dressed as Taskmaster that year. Such a sweet guy he even got his assistant to take a pic of us both on his phone and signed some comics for me.

RIP sir!!

He's one of the big reasons why JLA/Avengers is undoubtedly my favorite comic book story of BOTH DC and Marvel. He was one of the very rare creators who could bridge that great divide in the fandoms.

First Neil Adams and now George Perez. This is hitting me hard, losing 2 of my all time favorites that inspired me as a kid to become a better artist. 💔
