A couple of years ago, Marvel Comics resurrected the Sin-Eater in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man. At the behest of Kindred, he was able to purge Norman Osborn of his sins, setting the former Green Goblin on a righteous path.
After rebuilding Oscorp and finding an unexpected ally in Peter Parker (who was initially keeping an eye on the reformed villain before bonding with his former foe), Norman is now the heroic Gold Goblin. However, his evils didn't just vanish from the world.
Instead, the Beyond Corporation got their hands on the concentrated physical manifestation of those sins and injected them into therapist Ashley Kafka, transforming her into the monstrous Queen Goblin.
With help from Kraven the Hunter, she recently removed those and placed them within a spear that, despite being meant for Norman - in order to bring the Green Goblin back - ended up being plunged into Spider-Man. Now, he's carrying Norman's sins and we've since seen how much that's changed the web-slinger.
So far, he's buried Kraven alive and savagely beaten Norman, all while wearing his black costume. Now, a preview for Amazing Spider-Man #35 (via Games Radar) reveals that Peter's next targets are ex-girlfriend Mary Jane Watson and her boyfriend Paul.
That pairing has incensed many fans, particularly as Peter was getting ready to propose to MJ at the end of Nick Spencer's run. After spending years trapped in a post-apocalyptic future with Paul, MJ fell for him and raised a family (the kids later vanished; it was a magic-related thing), hence why she and Peter are no more.
Now, Spider-Man is out for blood and only "Jackpot" stands in his way. We're guessing the hero won't cross any lines he can't come back from but Marvel Comics says this issue sets the stage for the next 24 issues which, given the title's bi-monthly schedule, means the next year or so.
We're guessing these sins are heading back Norman's way and, if the Green Goblin rises again, that's bad news for Spidey and everyone in his life. Don't forget, Amazing Spider-Man is now on issue #929, so the big #1000 isn't that far away.
