April brings a new series:

MARVEL HER-OES #1
Written by GRACE RANDOLPH
Pencils & Cover by CRAIG ROUSSEAU
High school equals: bad cafeteria food, bullies, gym class and...people with secret super powers? As if!! Janet Van Dyne’s no stranger to the pitfalls of teenage living, but it’s about to get a whole lot trickier now that she has powers of her own. It’s hard keeping a secret like that in high school, especially when it would be so easy to send some blasts in the direction of her nemesis and popular ice queen, Namora. Maybe Janet would get a break then. Too bad she’s stuck pretending she’s normal. Too bad she’s in this all alone... or is she? Jenny Walters has some anger issues herself, causing her to Hulk out! Turns out the school theatre isn’t the only place you’ll find some drama this year!!
32 PGS/Rated A...$2.99

Randolph is hoping to open up the story potential for the women of the Avengers lineup in bringing them to a New Jersey high school setting – particularly the shrinking heroine Janet Van Dyne, AKA The Wasp.

"This is a big day for Janet Van Dyne," the writer explained of the series open. "She has superpowers, but she's been told to hide them from everybody. So she goes to a normal school where no one has superpowers – or so she thinks – and she's having a hard time hiding such a big part of herself. It's made her a wallflower. She's an underachiever.

Marvel Her-oes is pronounced "Heroes" by the way, leave the emphasis on paper.

This is a title to attract female readers into the mix, but the writer explains it's not just for girls: "However, I don't want guys to look at this book and go, 'Ugh...a girl!' This isn't all hearts and unicorns. There's going to be action and fighting. I think that's important."

God why are they turning there characters into teenagers?
Jenny Walters was a lawyer for godsake when she became The She-Hulk. is that supposed to be The Wasp?
And who are the other 3?
this is a bad omen of things to come from Marvel.

georgia49th@ Looks like the other three are Ms. Marvel, Namorita and maybe Valkery? The concept sounds horrible, but I like the art

I agree with the rest of you that this is not one of their best ideas. If they wanted to improve their female readership, they should have kept the characters adult (and in the 616 universe), while giving them their own series to play upon issues that are more relevant to female audiences.

Right now, these characters are still no where near many male characters in terms importance to the 616. If they had a series in the 616 universe that was at the centre of a major marvel event, it would improve their relevance and popularity among both male and female audiences. It also wouldn't hurt to see any one of them in a movie (such as the avengers movie who will only have Black Widow so far).
