Many of you might have thought the headline addressed this year's Avengers: Age of Ultron. But, sorry, you were wrong.
Avengers with a current worldwide gross of 1.368 million US-Dollar Age of Ultron still is number five in the alltime list, right behind ... Marvel's The Avengers. When in 2012 the The Avengers closed at 1.519 million it was the third most successful movie in cinema's history, being only the third movie to cross the mark of 1.5 billion. But now - way sooner than most might have thought - it dropped to number 4 as it was surpassed by Furious 7, which now holds 1.520 million. This makes Furious 7 second most successful 2D movie, only behind James Cameron's Titanic, which made 1.843 million US-Dollars at its original 2D run back in 1997.
There you got it. First Furious 7 (17 days) broke Avatar's (19 days) record of fastest movie to cross a billion US-Dollars, now it made the bronze medal in the alltime box office list. While Avengers: Age of Ultron sure did (and still does) well at the box office many thought it should beat its predecessor, which by now seems very unlikely. As Jurassic World currently shatters many other of The Avengers' records and Age of Ultron not performing as record breaking great as many expected, what does this mean for CBM? Does this mean they have already exceeded their zenith?
With Jurassic World standing at incredible 999 million after only 11 days in release and the for decades anticipated Star Wars Episode 7 opening later this year, do you think Marvel's The Avengers will drop even further during the year? Will Age of Ultron still top its predecessor?
